Anyone know about China Auto Dollars?

I looked around for a while and bought this one at a Stacks/Coin Galleries sale.

Anyone know anything about these?

Only that like most Chinese coins, there is an enormous amount of counterfeiting. Purchasing from a firm such as Stack's probably greatly reduces the risk.

I always like them. Not too many seem to come up for sale. This one cost me more than I expected but I'm happy to get it.

    MrEarlyGold:

It is a very cool coin. There is a certain Chinese coin that is also very tough to get that I am trying to buy at the moment... at some point hopefully a picture will get to the forum regardless as to how bad the picture may be.

Hmm, the auto dollar is in my want list ever since I saw Steve's (Steve27) example. Expensive and very tough in grades above F- VF.This one is very pleasing without rim nicks and with beautiful colour. image
