Wahoo! This has been a good 2 months so far. 2 more sets completed. Finally completed the black border terror known as 71 Topps baseball. Picked up my final card, #697 R. Clark, a few weeks ago. I wanted to wait till I had the card before annoucing completion. I will be looking to do some upgrades of the 7's to 8's, but it;s not necessarily a priority. The other set is my 89 Score football completed in all PSA 10. The John Taylor RC proved to be extremely elusive. I saw the population popped from 2 to 3, checked the likely suspects (turned out to be 4 Sharp) and hit the BIN.
For those who are looking for a landmark modern football set, I highly recommend 89 Score Football. It has everything going for it. Premiere set for Score (plus the set that I believe popularized football card collecting), strong RC selection (T. Aikman, B. Sanders, D. Sanders, D. Thomas, T. Brown, C. Carter, M. Irvin, T. Thomas), fantastic photography, cards of many HOF'ers in the midst of their careers, plus the 3 color borders give the impression that the set was released in series (which it was not).
10's are affordable right now. Between $10-$15 for most cards. 9's go for around the cost of grading ($5).
Thanks to all those guys who helped complete the 71 set. Special thanks to Augustaman (Bill), who seemed to know my set better than me and always gave me a "heads up" when I card I needed became available.

I actually noticed you completed the set (along with several
upgrades) yesterday when I was viewing the registry. It feels
great, doesn't it? I guess I'll have to cross #697 off my "find list".
I was so hoping to be able to pick one up and send it over to
you with a big ribbon tied around it.
All those recent upgrades pushed you above my set so I may have
to add a few more.
My current interest is the '74 baseball set. I need #213 to complete
my basic set and the two San Diego versions for card #599 to
complete the master set. I know you have #213 so if my '71 submission
produces some extra PSA 8's for your set, perhaps we can trade again.
What's next on your list besides slowly upgrading the '71 set?

What's the next project?
Congrats on completing this tough set! I am still miles away at about 72% on my set. Maybe one of these years I too can be so lucky.

Well done & congrats!

lostdart- I am insane. You can tell by checking out the other sets I'm working on
Imafishinnut/Augustaman- Being at 100% feels great. I won't be upgrading aggressively. My original goal was to do the set in PSA 7. I picked up most of the set from Zardoz in graded PSA 7. I than started picking up occasional 8's at or below SMR. I got the Clark from DSL.
Sixdart- I assume you are referring to my Score football set. I fell in love with the set as soon as it came out. Bought tons of product and opened 2 cases for myself. The rest I sold over the years. When I first got into grading, I was going to do the set in PSA 9. I than was given a lead that I could pick up 10's for a fair price and "raised the bar".
Mefer/Axtell- Keep plugging away. Stay alert on Ebay and keep in touch with the guys on this board. The last 10% is the toughest, but card by card, you too can get it done.
Machodoc- Don't worry about me. This set is not about competition for me. The prices of 9's are insane. Many of my 7's should be 8's, and many 8's should be 9's. This is one set where the graders objectivity rules. I pays to buy according to eye appeal rather than the number on the slab.
As for my next project, well I'm in the middle of about 20 sets, but I am starting to give more attention to my other baseball set (72-78), in PSA 8, 9 when affordable. Bill, LMK when you get any dupe 8's. You can always check my sets to LMK what I need
As for the 89 Score set, Check out DSL, 4_Sharp, Rockbottom and some other bulk sellers. I paid $15 per card for most of my 10's from J. Tuttle. If you want to submit yourself, find a clean factory set. That is the best way to garner 10's.

That's right Joe. I would have bid higher. It took me 5 seconds to hit the BIN. (I blinked in disbelief for the first 4 seconds)
It seems that you are going to have to submit that last 2 percent yourself. The big submitters have stopped grading this year since prices dropped. I don't think they will start again until there is some renewed interest.
