August grading special commons 1972-1992?

The only commons worth grading from 1972-1992 are 1972-1980. What commons 1981-1992 are worth grading. All commons 1972-1992 are valued under $500.00. Does this mean no star cards at all from 1972-1992. Or does it mean all cards including stars that SMR under $500.00 in a certain grade can be sent. I'm starting to confuse myself on this one.

I think they view HOFers as "star cards" and I thin if it is a late issue, i.e a 83 yaz, I think they will let that slide. As far as cards from 80- on worth grading, for set collectors in that region I think they would aregue their cards are not "worth" grading.

any card is worth grading if you are collecting them for your own pleasure and like the set and will never get rid of them.

'86/'87 through '88/'89 Fleer basketball commons are worth grading.
'89 Score football commons are worth grading.
'85 Topps Mini commons are worth grading.

I'll be sending in some 1984 USFL cards, 88 & 89 Fleer Basketball. As far as I can tell if it's not worth the $500 limit, I'm sending it in. I'll probably send in some Dale Murphy cards too.

I have 36 of the cards you need for your 84 Donruss set. They are all raw and would grade PSA 8 or better. Send me your address (or meet me at a local card shop) and they are yours. You'll have to take the time to measure centering and loupe the corners and edges but there are plenty that will grade 9 or better.

I see the "you can send only commons " has been deleted and now includes all star cards valued under $500.00. Makes me a lot happier.

When did they remove the "no stars" qualifier? To me, this makes the special much more acceptable.

I was busy getting this special ready while working on getting ready for The National.

Glad it's fixed. As always, Modern cards don't break out star or HOF players.

I wish I read this 20 minutes ago. I just got back from the PO to send off a 2 85d clemens for the $12 5 day. Grrr. Oh well, At least I know they will only take upto 5 days.

would that mean that, for example, a 1990 Topps Don Mattingly is a star card and therefore ungradable in a "no star card" special?

Yes that's correct Howard. All regular sized 1972-1992 ( except tallboys ) regardless of player as long as it is valued under $500.00. $5.00 per card with a 25 card minimum. I emailed PSA about this and Sonia emailed back with this info so it's time to get the submission's ready.

I finally may go through the hordes of Bench cards I collected in the 70s and 80s and submit them. I would say the same thing for the Ryan cards but I didn't take as good as care of them as I did Bench.
