I skipped out of work and went over to the center which was 2 blocks from my office.

I bought 2 1978 Topps Wax Packs,

    First I ripped the OPC's.

They were all rough cut as the 78 OPC's always are. Corners look good.

    First pack:

not much else was decently centered.

    Second pack:

There was one dead centered Roy Howell as well.

    On to the Topps...

    Nice stuff here!

    First pack:

    image

Also had a well centered Harrah and McCarver.

    Second Pack:

The third to last card and then right behind it was the bonus!

This whole pack was pretty well centered...

    I love ripping packs!

I also bought from a random table 4 84 Fleer wax. I actualy opened them in the car ride home and was suprised how difficult they were to open. I hadn't busted wax in a while(mostly racks) and didn't, although I should have, stop after the first. When I started opening the 78's and remembered how easily wax usually opens I realized those 84's might have been resealed! I don't remeber the guys name either! Needless to say the 84's were junk, I did get a Carew but o/c t/b.

    The Seaver is nice.

    How much did you pay?

    17ea for the Topps
    8ea for the OPC

He only had 2 T wax left so I took the OPC as an after thought. IMO $8 is a steal for those and I proabably should have bought the 6 he had left.

the corners on the OPC Seaver to the left look blunted/rounded- PSA 7-8 at best?

the real question- will any of the cards pull a "9" if professionally graded.- the Topps Whitaker cards look like they have a good shot.

PSA 8s will not get you your money back.

My experience with OPC wax in the 70s is you will get one card per pack that might pull a 9- the rest are O/C 6-8s!

    zef204,

What other unopened wax boxes or cases did Steve Hart have with him? Were his prices the same, higher or lower than his website prices?

Garth Iorg, a name from the past along with his brother Dane who played for the Phillies.

Recently saw a kid playing for a college team with the Iorg last name. Wondered if he was a son or grandson.

I had no luck w/ stars from my wax packs i bought from Steve, but the cards were are really nicely centered and crisp corners. I did get a Reggie Jackson, but that was about it.

I bet buying 1 of those wax boxes for $550 would be a pretty good purchase, especially reading other members experiences w/ his 78's.

I just bought 5 boxes of '84 donruss today, so I can't even think about the 78's.

I believe the Iorg you are referring to is the CF for the University of Tennessee. I think it is his son.

I think that both of the Whitakers have a chance at 9's, and I usually have a pretty good eye. My last 78 vending that I got I sent in 34 for submission and 23 got 9's. I usually can pick them for 78 topps.

As for the OPC's, I am a novice. I sent in a bunch of 77 OPC's, and out of 15 I had 5 9's, 8 8's and 2 not holdered's. The Seaver has a shot at an 8/9 based on what I saw with my 77's. A man can hope!

    Julien-
Let me know how you do with the 84D's! I was looking for packs of those and didn't find any and I wasn't prepared to buy a box. If you don't plan on ripping all 5 I would take one off your handsimage LMK

    Jayhawk-
I think he had most of what I saw in his inventory at his booth and the prices, if memory serves, were the same. Steve seems to be a real decent guy so if he did up a price, I think he would try and appease people who saw a different price on site. JMO.

I have softparade and CDsnutz to blame as they turned me onto this set and I love it.

Steve's prices on the packs, at least as the 78's were concerned, were consistent with the others I saw at the show. There were people with prices a few bucks higher than his for the 78 wax pack's, but with Steve I think you can trust his stuff is untampered and unsearched.

    Zef,

Nice looking pulls. The Whitaker on the right looks like a high end 8 or 9.

Thanks Mike. I figured it was just the ebb and flow of the market. I'm always looking to find a bargain, but try to watch out for stuff like re-sealed packs.

Some guys do better than others on a sale.

But I don't know if I would buy packs from these guys - even though it's not a lot of money - I would be more inclined to buy from BBCExchange or BBCKid for single packs.

here, here Stone! I agree. Buy from someone who has a reputation for dealing what they deal. You would never go and buy a new stereo from a guy who sells cell phones. Or a new air conditioner from a guy who sells fork lifts.

Just know that you are buying from someone who cares about their reputation in the field they are selling in and you will be allright!

edited to make it: a little coherent

Nice 9s on the Topps. I remember selling both of those as PSA 9s and got pretty good prices. I'd say you did well.
