What is evidence of trimming? Need expert opinion

Just got a submission of mid grade 1955 baseball back from PSA. One of the cards was a very solid, crease-free Killebrew RC. All 4 corners had very small wear, and some minor fuzzy edge wear around the sides. I have no doubt it would be a nice EX 5, and maybe EX-MT 6 on a good day. But came back ungraded EVID TRIM. I measured the card top and bottom of each side and it is exactly the same size as the graded 55s.

I'm wondering if people have any advice about what PSA actual might've seen to reject the card i.e. is there more than just measuring the card dimensions, or how fine do the measurements have to be i.e down to the micrometer or something?

It is especially annoying since the card has some typical fuzzy edgewear, so it's not as though the edges are razor sharp to begin with. I bought the card along with the other ones that were graded all from the same dealer at a show, so it's not like it came from a shady source (although certainly the dealer wasn't the original owner either, so that doesn't assure me of anything).

Also, wondering if anyone has had any experience/luck just resubmitting a card that came back EVID TRIM and getting it graded? I'd expect whatever the evidence is will be found again and it would come back the same. If it's trimmed, it's trimmed, I just can't figure out that evidence myself... Can post some scans tonight if that helps.

Thanks.

    Can you post a scan?

Trimming could mean just slight "doctoring" of one corner or an edge - that would be all it would take for PSA not to grade it. Maybe someone trimmed a rough cut edge when the card first came out of the wax pack, but over the years the corners aged naturally.

  • Thanks. Figured this would be difficult w/out a scan. Will get one up tonight.
  • PM sent.
  • I have had cards come back as EVID trim....resubmitted and they came back graded.......if they measure the same as your graded cards, try one more time and let us know how it turns out.
  • I think I will try again. Got some expert tips/advice about inspecting for trimmed cards, and (doing the best I could w/my resources) am confident they made a mistake. Will report results in a few weeks...
