ebay and the national

Most of my searches are coming up really dry.

Im guessing that everyone its at the National, I wonder if there will be good deals in the next days or will the lack of supply of cards on the bay make people jumpy and bid higher.

Does anyone have any news of whats going on so far?

  • I've seen some cards indeed go for more the week of the nationals in the past, and in some cases a lot more. I think the # of people that attend it is still a minute fraction of all the people on ebay, yet many people won't list this week. We can cross our fingers and hope for a flood of the same card in the next couple weeks to bring the prices down image

Found the National rather disappointing today, I think you can find better stuff on ebay on any given week. The show is more a social op.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • This seems to be the case every year. Ya get all excited, taking the time off, driving (flying) to the national, your expectations get really high, then you start walking around looking at all the eye candy, you look at all the prices, and you realize (price-wise) you're better off in front of a monitor.
I decided not to go this year just because I remember those thoughts after I made the sweep of the whole floor. After I've seen it all, it's like, that was it? What was I thinkin?

Earlier this year, I had planned on going but then I remembered comments like this that was made last year and then changed my mind.

I went to the National from 2000 to 2003. Each year got progressively worse for finding quality vintage raw cards and its no surprise that things haven't improved. Yes, I agree that it's a great place to meet other collectors and dealers and if you can afford the trip for that purpose alone, its well worth it. I may go next year for a day if its at Anaheim (someone told me that's where it is for 2006) simply because there are other things to do there (Disneyland, the beach, Hollywood, etc.).

I know that next year, prices will high and better deals could be had on Ebay......but I'm still really looking forward to it.

It's been probably 10 years since I've broken any quality wax at a card show here in So Cal. I'd like to see the BBCexchange in person and scour the show for some nice packs.

By next year, I'll probably be working on some sets in the registry. Those will be fun to hunt for.

    Dan,
Thats why , even though I had a kidney stone attack, Atlantic City was my favorite. There was the live auction that was great, and well the casinos, beach, and other things to do. Cleveland is a morgue and Chicago is OK but its still 30min to downtown. I really dont know why they dont like NYC or AC.

    The next 4 years

2006 - Anaheim, CA - Anaheim Convention Center
    2007 - Cleveland, OH - I-X Center
2008 - Anaheim, CA - Anaheim Convention Center
2009 - Chicago, IL - Donald E. Stephens Convention Center

  • Selection may be great but it always seems like I pick up a few things I may not normally have a shot at. Today I won an item and was suprised not to see my usual competitors listed in the bid history, then I saw this thread and remembered that a lot of them are probably at the National. Works for me! Hmnnn! add last year in Cleveland and Chicago currently.
Thats just 3 diff locations in a 6 year span!
Don't get me wrong, all 3 locations are great. But there must be other places that could do the National proud.
Vegas could handle a show of that size easily, every airport in the country seems to fly into Vegas and there is enough hotels to house some countries.
    Why isn't it considered? ...jay

I live in Miami and i would love to have a National close to home.

While Miami could get a little expensive, with hotels and car rentals, Orlando FL would be ideal.

Lots of stuff to do, great weather, super cheap hotels even the nice ones never run more than 150-200 a night.

It could be a great family trip for a lot of people.

    Guys,
If there is one place to hold the national - it would be Vegas baby!

A weekend of cards and cards? What more could you ask for? Texas holdem all nite, sports cards all day. Geez, the thought of that just makes me break out in sweats.

Yeah, chicago and cleveland and anaheim are ok, but c'mon...Vegas would be sweet!
