WARNING: New Ebay hijack email goin' round

Just a warning if you get an email like this do not click on the links!

This is the best spoof I've seen so far.

Title: Question from ebay member

Mika485 asks: What happened to my item. I have paid for it. Let me know asap or I will have to report you to ebay.

To see item click here: Then there is a link.

If you click this item you send all your info to this ahole. This is how
these scamming scum are hijacking accounts.

I had to think for a minute if Mika485 was a winner in one of my auctions.

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up.

Be careful out there. Back at it. image

  • I'm the odd man out since I don't ever look in my ebay mail - I respond using my regular email. If you right click the links they send you, you'll see the real url. It's a bunch of mumbo-jumbo, and clearly not an ebay domain. I've gotten a few of these from "Mika485", the funniest was diguised to look like sharper image and tried to sell me computers using broken english and ebonics...

    This is a dumb question...

I don't understand - if you open a link from your email site - how do they immediately get any info?

  • i've never clicked the link, but i believe it will come up as a page disguised to look like ebay asking you to login... once you login they have your password since it is on their "fake" ebay site. also i have heard that on some of these, once you click the link, it starts a nasty chain of spyware/adware downloading on your computer.
