Would you bother to have this card re-graded (qualifier related)?

I was a little surprised to see the OC qualifier as I didn't think the tilting was that bad, certainly not enough to take away from the eye appeal (at least for me). I personally don't like OCs and was considering sending it back with a note saying "please no OCs". I know that means it will probably knock the grade down a bit. Anyway, what are your opinions? You think it might be worthwhile?

Brian, I didn't measure it, but, judging from the visual centering left to right at the top of the card, I'd be very surprised to see that card come back as a straight 8. I'd keep the grade.

Edited to add: BTW, that is a beautiful card. Clean white borders and crisp all the way around. Looks mint to me (with a centering problem).

  • Using a screen ruler I measured the left to right centering at its worst point. Results were 66/34. You'd have a shot at an unqualified 8. Nice looking card the way it is though.

    Hi Brian
I see the card at slightly better than 70/30 which would - IMO - get you an 8.

Is this for the registry? BTW - nice card!! I agree with Mark.

Otherwise, if for resale - I have noticed that people don't pay a lot for a "slider" 8 due to centering unless, perhaps, a low pop?

So, if just for your own collection but not registry - I think it looks great as a 9 (OC).

    That's my take

Yeah, I guess I'll just leave it the way it is. I may eventually put it up for resale. Purchased this card raw over 15 years ago and sort of forgot about it until recently. Didn't realize it was so hard to find mint specimens from this set.
  • From what I've noticed, they tend to be more liberal on centering when a card has thin borders. I tend to agree that thin bordered cards like '55 or '56 topps look nicer OC than wide-bordered cards. My guess would be 50% chance 7, 50% 8. I agree to leave it holdered as a 9OC.
