Angry emails after winning an auction?

So I just won an auction... about 30 seconds later I get a one word email from the second-highest bidder, the whole of which is below (censored for the children):

BI***!

I then reply with "sorry buddy", to which he replies:

"Thats the second one you've taken from me, it wont happen again."

I feel like this guy is trying to mug me over the internet.

Happen to anyone else?

I'd tell him to bid higher.

How can anyone be upset that they lost an auction? You obviously wanted the card more than they did, otherwise they would have bid higher.

  • I've gotten angry emails before concerning the fact that i bid with like 10 seconds left or something. Whoever it was felt that was wrong and rudely thanked me for ruining their kids birthday since that was going to be their present.

ive had some more polite "angry" emails.. the last one was something like "you sure are a good bidder, i really wanted that card. Hope you enjoy MY card."

  • I thought that I was the ONLY one who got those kind of nasty emails.
Aside from collectibles, on some of our accounts, I bid on things that
women buy - like jewelry. I have had more than a dozen other women
email me and call me a mother dog for beating them out of "their" items.

I am as mean and crazy as anybody I know, but I cannot imagine getting
mad at somebody for beating me in an auction. (I have also had the "thanks
for stealing my daughter's birthday present" email.)

Maybe the world has no future, except lunacy.

I've gotten a few of those, but also gotten a lot more basically saying "we're working on the same set and keep beating each other up- how about a truce" Met some of my best friends in the hobby that way.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • What to do with angry emailers. Next time you see them as high bidder on something - up the bid 2 or 3 dollars. Just make sure it's an item you would want and still at a price you would be willing to pay. If you can do this a few times you have gotten your revenge. By the way I don't bid on sports cards on eBay.

  • I've had a number of nasty emails over the years. Name calling and you ruined my child's B-Day are common. I even had someone tell me they had been collecting such and such for a number of years and it doesn't make sense the two of us running the price up. They told me which cards they still needed and suggested I didn't bid on those. There are definitely a lot of angry people out there.

IMHO - responding to these is tantamount to road rage.

MM is right. If you reply, it's like spam .... you're just asking for more. People have to deal with the fact that it is legal and proper to bid at the last moment on eBay.

Please give us the names of your nasty emailers! I would enjoy bidding on the same auctions they are! image

I agree that it would be best not to incite a maniac like that!

They could mess with other auctions you are bidding on just for spite.

I have a nemesis over at the Toppsvault - he snipes, as do I - but is wealthy and spends thousand(s) per week.

If I really want an item - I just set the snipe high - when I win one from him - I add a "remark" to Lisa from the "vault" telling her I finally won one from wossaumottau!!! Or I'll write - I got one but he's kicking my butt!!!

    That's my way of venting.

Just remember - anyone who will send you a "nastygram" is potentially a "nasty" person!

I have never gotten any of these e-mails. I think its strange that people do this , and how could they possibly claim it is "MY" card.

On a side note, I have sold a lot to wossaumottau(or however he really spells it). He is a good buyer and seems to have deep pockets. I can chuckle at your dealings Mike and I understand how he works.

I've never gotten emails like these.

Anyway, with my collecting ADD, if I lose a close auction, I'll just find something else to bid on.

I've gotten a few of these too on some modern issues I've bid on. My stock response is to tell them that no, I don't plan on enjoying it, but I do plan on getting it slabbed and flipping it at a 50% profit. Then I ask if they'd like me to drop them a line when I put it back up on the 'bay.

Unless the guy is flipping some of this stuff, he has all kinds of money to spend. I wish I could do that.
What he spends on the Toppsvault alone is astounding!

I even thought about emailing him to see if we could stay out of each other's way - but I figure if he has that kind of money, he could care less about staying out of anyone's way. He just sets the snipe and let's the chips fall where they may.

While I have never responded to the auction-rage emails, two have always stuck with me (paraphrased):

    1) I was buying that for my sick father who is currently on his death bed. I hoped it would bring a smile to his face that I haven't seen in years

    2) That's my boyfriend's favorite player of all time and when he finds you, he's going to beat the living poo out of you

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

The other day i got sniped by "Alfaro", who has the #1 Carew Master Set. We both put our bids in within seconds of each other and he won. I will always have my limit to what i am willing to pay for something. If they bid more than me, congrats, and i will wait for the next one.

Some hillbilly emailed me a while back, calling me all sorts of (misspelled) names after I outbid him on a card. I can't remember his username, but it was something lame like arkansasjoe or something like that. Unfortunately, Mr. Hillbilly forgot to click the "hide email address" box and, coincidentally, his email address was registered with numerous porn sites.

I never had received, but I would send some to the others that were outbidding me on 67s, just some fun ribbing, but nothing ever nasty.

I thought about changing my ebay name to that so I could snipe him some more, but it would probably hurt my sales...

Whenever I bid on a game, dvd, etc.; no one else snipes. I can't recall the last sports card I bid on where no one else sniped...
