I just got a 63 Topps Hky 9 in my July submission...

What a shock as i've sent in 2 or 3 groups of 63's and have only pulled a couple 8's. I was hoping for an 8 at best but figured I'd pull a 6 or 7 as usual. The 9 is a shock because if I thought it was that nice it probably would have went in my first group of 63's. Anyone who knows this set knows how tuff 9's are. I pulled a 9 on Bob Leiter and its only the 2nd 9 graded by PSA.
I believe there are only 84 9's graded out of 1877 '63 topps submissions

The rest of the submission was my typical 5's thru 8's as usual.

I also got my first "Not holdered evidence of trimming" which is just as puzzling as the 9 because the 2 raw sets I'm pulling these cards from have been in my posession for years. It may be short but I highly doubt its trimmed. Too bad as it was a Westfall RC which I need for my registry set.

Lesson learned here: I have no friggin idea how to pregrade! image

God I LOVE that '63 set. It's hands down my favorite set-- of ANY sport.

I've gotten my share of 'not holdered' cards as well. If you take a close look you'll notice that the sizes of these cards are all over the map.

Congrats, BTW, on the 9. That's a VERY tough set to score that kind of grade on, especially when you consider how horribly centered 99% of the cards are.

way to go bob! i've gotten that same message back a few times even when i've pulled the cards right from packs myself. even funnier when it happens to other versions of the same card. i'm left to assume they were cut shorter at the factory. i cant imagine someone trimming multiple copies of '79 topps borje salming!!!
i never resubmitted so let me know how it goes if you do.

thanks guys. I think I will resubmit the Westfall RC if its not too too short. Also I figured out what happened. The majority of my 63 submissions have been from the better of the 2 raw sets I own. When I say better I mean brighter colors, good registry and beaming white borders. The centering is hit and miss as Boo stated this is a tuff year for centering. The Leiter was one of a few cards I submitted from my other raw set which isn't as clean or crisp. I guess the corners and centering play a bigger factor in grading the 63's than color and registration.

I'm about to flip through the set again and see what else I can find.
Hopefully I can pull another 9 or a few 8's for my registry set out of my "lesser" raw set.

Maybe a nice Mikita to replace my 8(OC).
