Think this will cross?

    Yes.

The trick to SGC cards is the centering. They're more stringent (IMO, and I don't want to get in a war about this with anyone) on corners and surface than PSA, but they tend to drop the ball on centering. So long as the card meets the centering requirements it should cross with no problem.

  • I would agree that SGC is more stringent about the surface. But I don't agree with the corners. The corners is possibly the most important aspect to PSA grading.

8 times out of 10 a SGC graded card will grade the same or higher when crossed to PSA. image

i have had great sucsess crossing sgc to psa.

sgc is /was lax on centering though. but if you take a nicely centered sgc card, craxk it out you will do well almost all the time.

Zef - If you decide not to crack out that '74, I could use it for my SGC '74 set. image

Is SGC really lax on centering? Or is it that, unlike PSA, they don't use qualifiers for ANY defect; they just reduce the grade accordingly.

JR it is my opinion that they do not lower the grade. My feeling is that a cards centering is one flaw that can be readily seen and thus needs no qualifier (from sgc point of view) I assume they feel that a mint card is a mint card regardless if it is centered. if 2 sgc cards of the same player are available the centered one would of course go for more. If an OC one is only being offered then it would command an OC price.
The only bad thing about this, is, if a new buyer enters the market he/she best be aware of this. I am not sure about other defects and what they do. perhaps Southern will have that answer. I do know that they grade as well as anyone.

With SGC the adage "buy the card not the holder" rings loudest .

    the holder is sweet too.

Steve, I believe in theory SGC does reduce the grade for centering, print defects, or whatever. As does GAI. I hope you're wrong when you say they do not deduct at all for bad centering. I have respect for SGC and I am rooting for them to present a strong challenge to PSA, because I want my chosen grading service to feel the pressure and stay on its toes.
