Can I request NO qualifiers on my submission sheet?

A very reputable person has recently told me that if I don't want to receive a qualifier on a grade submitted to PSA, I can mark "no qualifiers" on my submission sheet. Obviously, I may subject the card to a lesser grade. How does one go about this? Where on the form should I make this distinction? Does anyone do this, or is a 9 (OC) considered better than an 8?

Thanks!

I havent actually submitted in a while, but I think there used to be a box you could check. I know BGS has a place for that and one for the lowest grade you will accept (I always loved that one), but I havent submitted any to them since they have had so many trimmed cards go through.

Yeah just write it down at the top of the submission form.. *PLEASE NO QUALIFIERS*

A 9 OC is considered to be a 7. Correct me if I'm wrong..

knuckles it is only considered that in the registry.

a 9oc could possibly get a 5 or 6 grade too. they take the centering at the worst point and give it that grade

    To add to the problem...

Let's say you have a really nice card with perfect corners, registration, gloss, surface etc. but it's centered 90/10 - by PSA standards and no qualifier - you're looking at a PSA 3 - VG.

As mentioned, your 9OC could really wind up much lower if the other attributes of the card are that far off. I don't like the "no qualifiers" request - I just take my chances with what I send in.

There is no box for this on the PSA form, anywhere...you would have to write it in yourself.

a 9 oc that is not that badly OC is a very under valued card. Id much rather have it then say a 7. either way it is a 7 in the registry.

I just wish that psa never allowed the No qualifier request. that way cards that were qualified would not be held in such low esteem.

another pet peeve I have is the ST qualifier. I have seen cards with stains on the back not get them while cards with the slightest wax stain get it. early bowmans are notorious for not getting the qualifier. the stain on them can be horrendos. a skight wax stain on say a 69 mantle though and wham..ST

  • Fascinating thread. Thanks for the replies. Steve, I tend to agree with you. I think 9 (OC) cards are undervalued.

I've seen ridiculously off-centered cards get an OC qualification, but similarly-centered cards allowed to pass. It's a given that card grading is inherently subjective, but I think centering is one of those mathematical things that should not be too tough. When an OC qualification hurts a card's value so much, they should give them out consistently (or not at all!).

If you do request no qualifiers, I recommend writing it in large letters and on every page. I've have submissions come back with qualifiers when I wrote No Qualifers only on the top of the first page.
