German coin question

In the 1901-present 31st edition Krause, the 1972-D German mark is listed as having an existing error without reeding. What kind of edge do these coins generally have? The one that I have has a smooth edge with an impressed design.

I'm pretty sure it's where the edge's usual arabesque design is missing (book calls it "ohne Rändelung", whereas denoms with edge inscriptions have errors of the type "ohne Randschrift"). Makes sense for an error--the impressing collar was missing?

Anyway, a year old M&P says that error is worth €550! This same type error is known on a few other year-mints of the 1 DM: 62-F, 62-J and 63-G.

I should add, the standard 1 DM's edge is smooth with incuse arabesque on either side of a star, repeated six times.
