Penguins get Sidney Crosby

Just in...Pittsburgh won 1st pick in the NHL draft lottery and announced they will pick Sidney Crosby on the 30th and they are not open to any deals for the #1 pick. Annaheim was 2nd.

A little over 2 months until training camp opens.

That sucks...lol. Maybe they can finally get some fans in the stands... like in the Lemieux/Jagr glory days.

I'm happy for the Pens but I'm sceptical about Crosby.. There was a ton of hype regarding Daigle, Bonk.. I can name quite a few if I thought about it more but you get the idea... they didn't do very well in the NHL.

If the Pens didn't need him so bad as a quick fix to their lack of fan support I think it would be in their best interest to trade him to a team who's willing for fork over 20-30mil (they could use the cash), that teams first draft pick.. and a proven star player. Like an Iginla calibur player.. Just too many drafts have gone by with these so called 'next ones' who end up suck'n while the players picked 4th.. 7th.. turn into stars.

If the NHL is smart, then they will do everything in their power to market this kid and turn the hype machine up like the nba did with LeBron.

Like I said, 'if' it is smart...and judging by the past 12 months, that is in question.

and it's graded pristine 10.

Or picked 50 something (Patrick Roy) or 250 something (Rick Tocchet) or not at all (Luc Robitaille). I agree that Crosby has some talent but he hasn't played against really big, defensive minded players. Remember, the Quebec Junior League, where he played, has always been a scorer's paradise. (When, afterall, have you ever seen a French guy over six foot tall and over 200 lbs??

Mario Lemieux is 6'4", 200 lbs, and played his junior in the Q. I hear he turned out alright.
