WTF!! Did I miss the memo??

In the last couple of weeks, I must have received a half dozen envelopes with cards, sandwiched between cardboard and taped to the inside of the envelope. I have to completely destroy the envelope to get my cards out. I don't think taping to the inside of the envelope accomplishes anything except frustrating the hell out of me. Why, all of a sudden, is this being done?

I got one of these yesterday. One card in a top loader, sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard and taped to the inside of an 8" x 11" clasped envelope....WTF?

Yesterday I got a set that had one card graded. The box comes and I thought it would be doble boxed at least. NOPE! The guy stuck a lable on the outside of the set and sent it. I opened it, looked at a few of the cards and e-mailed the guy to let him know I bet the set was beautiful before he sent it. I also told him that he forgot the graded card.

    He replied, "It's in there."

WHAT! I took out half the set and saw the graded card on the bottom and he put the set on top and clsed the lid and ruined the cards. Can you believe that?

  • Yes, this is a problem... along with the DB's who like to put tape all over the toploaders...
  • Dart, you have a linky for that? I want to see who to avoid... Thanks.

I've received cards in this manner before also... it's ridiculous...

Also ridiculous is what I have to go through to pack a card so I can get delivery confirmation...

The USPS requires that a package be 3/4" thick at some point in order to get delivery confirmation - which is just about one of their dumbest rules they have ever come up with. I have to stuff a couple styrofoam popcorn pieces inside a padded envelope so the thing is thick enough to get delivery confirmation.
  • Mark, It’s basic supply and demand. If you followed the market you would know that the supply of tape has far exceeded the demand and therefore needs to be put to use. You are just the victim of an ever growing problem that has plagued this society. It’s unfortunate, I know. Keep the faith, be strong and try to understand…for this too shall pass.

    Hi Mark
Was that a rhetorical question? LOL

If I put a toploader in an envelope, I could see taping it to keep it from sliding around and busting out. But if in cardboard? Regular white mailing envelope?

I think it's a conspiracy to drive us old guys crazy!

On that note, I have purchased 3 glass cover blinds that go over the back door to block out the sunlite.
All three - the blind does not go all the way down to the bottom! Talk about q-control?

OK - now - try opening a "registered" box - some put enough tape on them to blanket texas!

    good to hear from you

Funny this subject was brought up. I bought a hard to find Nolan Ryan insert from 1985 Topps the other day. Got it for only $1.36 which included shipping. Figured it would come in a white envelope, but in a toploader. NOPE! Came in a flat brown envelope, no toploader, no cardboard, no nothing. Expected the worse, but the card was still mint. Maybe the post office takes better care of the non insured stuff.

I may be partially guilty on this but not intentionally. I awlays take extra care when packaging cards that I always use thick cardboard as a sandwich for the card(s) and then use packing tape to go round the cardboard sandwich several times in both directions. I them place it in a padded envelope. However, I don't do a neat job when winding the tape around which could cause the ends to stick to the envelope. I don't purposely tape it to the envelope but sometimes I suppose the sandwich don't come right out. I would rather have a customer complain about excessive packaging than receiving damaged cards.
