what's the next set you're planning to collect?

Any plans on the horizon to start collecting another complete set?

I'm planning to tackle the 1951 bowman set pretty soon. I already have two big cards from the set...the willie mays rookie and ted williams.

If I ever start a set it'll be the 1950 Bowman. Perhaps the best looking set there is. The Larry Doby is one of my favorite cards ever.

  • I am probably going to work on a vintage hockey set, 61 Fleer BK set, 86 Fleer BK set, or the 1965 Topps BB set. It'll be awhile because the sets I am currently working on should keep me busy for quite some time. image

Seriously considring the 1954 Topps set. 5 cards to go for the 1955 set.

  • I am also thinking about possibly tackling the '55 Topps All American set at some point as well. image

Don't know why, but probably the 63 fleer set. Some tough sp's and the checklist make it challenging, plus a bunch of stars. Also, relatively inexpensive to complete in PSA 7-8.

1954 Red Heart is a set I would like to attempt. It seems like a nice mix of stars, not too hard to come by, and not unreasonably priced.

Anyone have any advice on that set?

When I finish my 63F BB set - my next project will be the 64T Standup set - considering raw.

I think it's a great set! I've been working on it for almost 2 yrs now - just got to 50% I did pick up the
Adco*k SP - pd. 172.50$ - SMR 300$...nice buy - the slight rough cut eliminates many bidders - doesn't bother me at all.

The better the centering, the closer you will have to pay SMR or sometimes slightly above. I take the nicely centered and look for the bargains. I don't like the sliders where centering looks really bad.

Good luck if you choose the set!

  • stone...good luck with the 64 standup. very popular set. i tried getting into it, but even the PSA 7 semistars and commons were heavily bid on. ended up buying only a orlando cepeda (then selling it off a few weeks later) and deciding not to collect the set. at least you're trying to collect it raw...so there's not as much competition.

    Stone,

I recall the Adc*k as a tough card to obtain in high grade, and you got it well under SMR. Very nice. Rough cut wouldn't bother me either.
I had to edit this post twice because of the bad word.

I was going to start a 1954 Bowman Football set, but decided the price was too high. I can get the raw cards in probably PSA 5 or PSA 6 quality for a decent price, but to get them graded would cost too much. Had to abort that mission. The next plan will be to try to cut down on my overall purchasing for a few months, as I think I am spending too much on a dying hobby.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
