Is C57 Hockey this rare ??

Did anyone else see the prices realized last night for the low to mid grade 1912 C57 cards.

Many of these ended at 6x SMR or more. Most had multiple bidders at 4 - 5x SMR.

Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot of pre-war hockey surfacing lately? In the last month, I've
seen more 1933 OPC hockey in PSA holders on Ebay than I've seen in the last 2 yr's.

This card has a current SMR value of $425.

This card lists at $275.

  • Hi Rob

While i'm certainly not an expert on the issue the C57 are the rarest of the 3 "C" sets

I'd say the set is that rare. In absolute terms the grades on the recent C57's are in the low-to-mid range, but relative to the set, they're high grade. Plus SMR is not always real accurate with C and V cards to begin with.

Pre war sports cards have been going through the roof as of late. the guides just can't keep up. cards that "book"for 200.00 have been going for 2000.00.

    What's the population?

5's I believe are usually the highest grade available with only 1 to 3 in existence per card or so.. So yeah c57 set registry collectors will be willing to pay well over SMR for these.

For instance with 1967-68 Topps a #57 Dave Dryden PSA 9 has a SMR of $70 but there's only two PSA 9's in existence and no 10's. This card sold for $300ish
