I watched that game, they intentionally walked him to get to sosa in the 9th inning!
Jones won it for the twins with an opposite field blast in the bottom of the inning.

Yes Raffy will be in the hall. and well deserved too.

    Good for you.

Opposing pitchers started doing the same thing (walking others to get to Sam-ME) here in Chicago the past two years. What has become of Sammy? I always thought the guy was a self-centered jerk and believe you reap what you sow.

    "Rafael Palmeiro: Hitting
In an effort to maintain his power, Palmeiro continues to sacrifice his batting average. While he still makes consistent contact against southpaws, he struggles to hit better than .200 or deliver much power against them.

    Mediocre player.

    Played forever.

    Never dominated.

    Hall of Fame bound!

I like how the only thing in my post you disputed was the 'playing forever' but not the 'mediocre player' or 'never dominated'. I guess you finally have come to the conclusion that's the correct assessment of his career huh?

Well my work here is done. I've converted Raffy's most adamant fan into admitting Raffy was an average player!

No i didnt bother with those two. I tried to keep things simple (for the simple minded)

Twist it how? By stating the facts of the argument against Raffy? To sum up the argument against his induction:

Never led the league in BA
Never led the league in HR
Never led the league in RBI
    Never won an MVP
Never led the league in OPS
Best MVP finish was 5th, only 3 top 10 finishes in 20 years
Only 3 gold gloves in 20 years, yet he's supposed to be an incredible fielder
Only 4 all star appearances in 20 years (that's his peers talking, saying he isn't the best in the league)

I'll leave it at that. Even you should be able to comprehend that overwhelming evidence.

ya ya ya I heard it all 20 times........

    He will get in
    that is the bottom line.

unless he gets soiled with the roids.

Were you talking about Raffy or Craig Biggio?

    << <i>

No, actually Biggio is recognized by his peers to be one of the best at his position of this era (evidenced not only by 7 all star appearances (nearly double Raffy's), but by his garnering all-star appearances at both catcher and at second (the only player EVER to do that)).

Biggio had a fourth and fifth place finish in MVP voting.

I know it must be a difficult concept to grab, but Raffy never has been near the top of league first basemen in his era.

Biggio is arguably one of the top 2 or 3 in his.

If you think Raffy is worthy of the hall, then there is no amount of evidence that can be shown to prove to you otherwise. If you don't believe Biggio belongs, the same thing applies.

They both belong. Raffy is a lock and first-ballot given his consistency and cumulative numbers and Biggio is a lock if he can get to 3,000 hits and given his versatility.

My suggestion to both: Go beat up your wives, get caught with a gun, or shove a cameraman. It will work wonders for visibility. You want proof? I'm amazed by the number of stupid sportscasters who have only now mentioned Rogers as a Cy Young candidiate after his incident.

As the Egyptians used to say: "Say good things about me, say bad things about me, just never forget me."

  • If Biggio does hang on until he gets 3,000 hits, then his chances for the Hall of Fame improve tremendously. But I just dont understand how one can consider him a first ballotter when it took Ryne Sandberg three tries to get in.

When he retired, Sandburg had both the most career home runs by a second baseman as well as the highest lifetime fielding percentage (and this was with exceptional range, he was not a statue). That is about as well rounded as you get.

And he had an MVP award,
and he led the league in Home Runs one season (not in the MVP year),
and he led the league in Total Bases one year,
and he led the league in Runs scored three times,
and he led the league in Triples one year,
and he had 9 consecutive gold gloves,
and he had 10 consecutive All star appearances (although that is not really a reflection of your peers as the fans select the starters [and one could say they were just the most popular not the best], and the managers select the reserves [and you could be hitting .310 and be left off because the best player on the Devil Rays was hitting .268 and played your position...or the manager wants his lesser second baseman from his own team recognized],
and he had 344 stolen bases.

And it still took him three tries.

Im thinking that Biggio might have to take the Don Sutton route if he gets the 3000 hits (meaning he gets in eventually, but not right away).
