Damage or??

image

Newfoundland 1945 10 cent

Check out the 4 and the N
There is a loop at the end of the four and one in the middle of the last line taht makes up the N.
I suspect they are damage, possibly by a thin nail or something being hit into the coin, the loop in the N is close to the middle of the coin.

What do you think? Sorry if the scan isn't that great, I'm using a 16x loupe to peer at the coin, but my scanner isn't that good.

Hard to say from the pic.

It's interesting, like there might be somethin' goin' on there. That looks like an awful lot of extra metal to the right of the "N", if it was just damage mooshing it out.

Also, for both the N and the 4 to have been affected seems a bit strange.

    The overall grade is EF

Tbirde, that's a possibility. i can't tell if it is damage or not, but the coin looks like it's had PVC damage on the metal in the middle of the N, but that still doesn't explain the wierdo circles.

The top left of the N is full intact, while the rest of the middle line of the N looks damaged, or the die was pretty beat up there.
