Canadian Maple Leafs - POP REPORT

Does anyone have the POP numbers for the following coins since there is NO offical PCGS POP REPORT available?

Silver One Ounce Maple Leafs (1988 to date)

Privy Marked Silver Maples (1998 to date)

Zodiac Privy Marked Silver Maples (2004)

Thanks.

Most Darksiders despise pop reports, let alone bullion pop reports. We're a strange group, but welcome and I hope someone answers your question soon. image

OK, now you have me curious. May I ask why you despise POP Reports and especially Bullion POP Reports?

    Is bullion BAD?

I have found them very useful for my Lincoln collections. They give me a good perspective on which coins are harder to find and grade in High Quality. Forget the registry, I just would like to know which coins demand a higher level of hunting. Because of the POP Report, you can tell by the POP count listed which coins are harder to find. An example is the 1961, 62 and 69 PROOF Lincolns. The 69's are known for chatter in the fields, thus making them very hard to find in a high grade.

  • Does PCGS publish population reports on foreign coins?
They are not in my current book.

No they don't. That is the problem. The only way to know what they are is to either register a set or know someone that has one registered. Since there are only 3 sets registered and Walt has his closed, you can't find out. That's why I'm asking if anyone knows.

Forgive me, I did not mean to sound sarcastic, and maybe the word despise was inappropriate. But by reading your question and the second post, I couldn't help but think that many Darksiders are not interested at all in slabs and grades, let alone pop reports. It's just the nature of the Darkside, where the quantity and the variety is so big that not many collectors get as deep into a series as knowing which years are known for chatter in the fields. Also, PCGS doesn't publish foreign pop reports, except for Canada I think. Bullion is certainly not bad. Stick around and you might get to see one of those weekend threads were we all take one side or the other on the subject and then we all make friends again. I told you, we're a strange group. image

Did I say I don't? In percentage terms, I probably have more slabbed coins than anybody else here. But I still don't know the answer to the question that's been asked, postcount cheaters. image

While they don't "publish" in a strict sense, the POP numbers are there if you can divine a "lookup no.".

A logical guess is they might be on the back end of the modern silver dollars, e.g., from Tony's list in the Can Registry you find the number 32494, which reveals the follwoing partial list.....

    PCGS No: 32494
    Date: 1989
    Denom: $5
    Variety: Maple Leaf/Ag
    Desig: MS

    66: 4
    67: x
    68: 1

    Total: x

MacCrimmon, well I went and did it. I spent the last 4 hours racking my brain on Coin numbers as you told me I could do. Out of the total-46 coins needed for all 3 sets, I managed to get all but 12. Man my fingers hurt. So, with out keying in another 100,000 strokes, now what do I do? Got anymore suggestions?

Seriously, I think it's past time for PCGS to publish world coin pop reports. Like it or not, slabbing has already affected the market for some coins, and we need all the information we can get to keep up with those changes.

    Rock,

Good Job! It is possible those 12 don't exist, i.e., no coins have been submitted for that year/type. Essentially, every possible coin has a serial no. reserved, but I've found they don't necessarily follow logical patterns, especially when jumping from MS to PF/SP issues.

Newsy, it wouldn't be much of a problem for a good programmer to write an algorithm to display those World POPs in a full page format; none at all.....PRIORITIES! PRIORITIES! image

By the way, here is something new I found while keying in all those numbers.

Silver One Ounce Maple Leafs (Maple Leaf/AG's)

I found that there is a number for the following: What is this?
    - Maple Leaf/AG's (Hmmm)
    - Maple Leaf/AU's (Hmmm)
    - Maple Leaf/PT's (Hmmm)
    - Maple Leaf/PR's (PROOF I know)

If you have slabbed maple leaf coins for the years you want information for (or know of a way to get slab insert information of a coin), just email PCGS and ask for the pop info by providing them with the coin number on the slab. They will run a query against their data base and provide you with the pop report breakdown for all the coin numbers you can provide. At least that is how I did it for some slabbed UK gold coins that I have.

I wish it was that easy for me. I DO NOT have the coins slabbed that I need the information for. I have a PCGS membership, so I can look up the coins in the POP Report and get what I need, but I don't have the coins. Major Problem.

Here is what I need: Coin Number for the following:

    1988 Maple Leaf/AG
    1993 Maple Leaf/AG
    1997 Maple Leaf/AG
    1999-2000 Maple Leaf/AG
    2003 Maple Leaf/AG

    2004 Privy Desjardins

    2004 ARIES
    2004 TAURUS
    2004 GEMINI
    2004 CANCER
    2004 VIRGO
    2004 LIBRA
    2004 SCORPIO
    2004 SAGITTARIUS
    2004 AQUARIUS

Try eBay. Search for the year, maple leaf and PCGS and maybe you can get coin numbers off of listing photos. Just an idea.

Great idea, but, I tried EBAY, Heritage, TT, Yahoo, Google and about a half dozen more to get ZERO. But, the good news is that it sounds like Walt is going to help me out. We'll see. It was my first PM to him and he seems like a decent guy. My reason for these is very simple, it help me save money when buying RAW coins.

It's just to have the information on hand so I know how hard PCGS grades particular coins. An example would be if the coin grades 17-MS65, 2-MS68, 1-MS69, then I know that when I'm looking for that particular coin that they are harder to come by and I should not waist my money on looking for a 65-66, I should keep hunting for a raw coin that would make it to the 67-69 mark.

Another example is one that has plagued me for 2 years now on my Lincolns. The 1969-S is well known for having chatter in the fields. Because of this the POP is very low in a 68-69.

The POP just helps me better understand which years have better coins in them and which do not. That is all.

You bet, they are on the way. What has got me curious is that there is NO coin number for the following Maple Leaf/AG

    1999-2000
    and
    2003

I see that there is a 1999-2000 (Fireworks) and a 2003 (Summer) but no just plain old Maple Leaf/AG

    Specifically on the 2003, there is a 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004 and I just posted the 2005. I wonder if no one has ever submitted a 2003?

    image

Here is the 2000-2005 Maple Leaf/AG
    2000 - #34239
    2001 - #1003417
    2002 - #1001750
    2004 - #1009233
