Totally Worthless?

I know that we are always saying how worthless most of the overproduced cards from the late 80's and early 90's are. Can anybody think of any cards (especially in that era) that used to be thought of as worthless, but that are now sought after at least a little bit?

I thought 1987 Fleer Bonds and 1987 Donruss Bonds-Maddux-Palmeiro were worthless in the late 1980s. Stuffed 'em into 800-ct. boxes along with the rest of the commons and sold 'em in bulk lots in 1988-89. By the time I rejoined the hobby a couple years ago, they were the only ones I should have kept!

I cant think of anyone specific but from time to time things pop up. Sometimes a former 80's/90's player might become a manager for a local minor league team and you can sell the cards locally to collectors/fans trying to get autos.

One time, I went to physical therapy and saw an autographed picture of former Phillie Tommy Greene on the wall. Greene threw a no hitter in '93? Anyway, the therapist said that Greene lived locally and was there all the time for therapy. I scoured my cards and found 1 but ended up finding 3-4 at the local card shop. Next time I had pt, Greene was there and signed them all. As an example, I think that's the extent of any kind of rush on 80's/90's material that you might find.

I remember when 1992 Bowman came out, there was not as great an interest in the product as had been the previous two years. Full boxes were available well into 1994 for less than $40 a box.

There's also far more interest in some of the stars cards, since high end examples can fetch decent money in PSA 10. Fifteen years ago you could buy stuff like '86 Roses and '88 Ripkens in bulk for a penny a card-- or less. But I think anyone here would jump at the chance to pick up a 100 ct. pack fresh lot of those cards for a buck now, since you've got an OK shot of pulling a card that you could flip for a substantial profit.
