OT: Vonage

We are having problems with our local phone service and thinking of switching to Vonnage Broad Band Phone company. Anybody out there in collecting land have experience with Vonnage?

I have voNage(note the single N) and I have no problems and it has saved me $50 a month.

You need a cable hookup to use it as it goes through the internet. My IT guy at work told me about it and I have had no problems.

Sorry, I accidently spelled it wrong when I did a google search and thus the wrong link. No spam was intended. I changed the link. Thank you for pointing it out to me. Also, thank you for your opinion on the service. Anyone else's opinion is welcomed.

Vonage has or had some issues with 911 access. Don't know if they fixed it.

We've had Vonage for about 18 months now and it's been very good. The problem is when your connection goes down, your phone goes down, so if you don't have very reliable service it can be a pain. Also, for some reason we cant ascertain, the "box" will stop working at random times. You have to uplug (power) everything, the box, the router, etc. Then plug in the router, wait a few minutes, then plug in the Vonage box, then wait a few more minutes for your phone to start working again. There is no knowing when or why this happens. You just go to pick up the phone and hey, no dial tone. Or you realize you haven't gotten any calls in awhile. If you keep the box in an out-of-the-way place like we do, it's easy for this to stretch into days. On the other hand, it's definitely going to save you money over regular phone+ long distance, the sound quality is good, and it's accessibility is great. You can forward your homne phone to any other phone, check your voicemail, and check your usage and billing all online. You can even take the box with you and plug it into someone's house and get your same service.
