Oh man, I think I got my dream unopened pack...

...or perhaps something is fishy

70 Topps GAI 9.5

It has been a long time dream to get one of these and with the going price being around $425, I now wonder why so low on this? He has sold other GAI packs (like a 70 Hockey). I hope this dream turns out all right.

Right after I take a spin around the block in my Big Wheel.

    This is ok, right?

    Congratulations Steve!

The pack is pristine! A real beauty!

I don't know but to be frank - the pack is "more collectible" - note I'm not referring to value - the way it is.

Plus, it's a series one pack - no superstars - now if you had a chance at pulling a pristine Munson - then I would say - open says me!

    This is just my opine.

  • Wow! That pack ended low......I was going to bid but was listing items when it ended, that is a great price. Do not worry that seller is good and the pack is good too, you just got lucky!

    Congrats.

Its a series one pack, not one of the more valuable packs from 1970.

I know that but there are still a couple of nice cards (Mets Team and Yaz, plus all of those league leaders). I'm sure wasn't going to pay $425 to relive a childhood memory.

Nice pack Steve, Use it as a companion pc to a set?

    Congrats!

    Good for you.

It certainly would be a nice companion piece next to my 1970 set. But I got to feel those cards again and smell the stale gum. After that thrill wears off, I'll see if I can get some money back and perhaps do it again.

Don't do it, Steve! Even though the pack is 9.5, that doesn't mean the cards inside are. You might get 5 commons that would grade 8. Not an unlikely scenario. Heck, most cards that came out of 1970 packs in 1970 would grade 8. Odds are small that you'd get your $267 back (closer to $300 after grading) from the contents. A 9.5 pack from 35 years ago is something special. Hold onto the value of the pack and watch it rise, and dream about what's in there.

Opening a pack of vintage cards is like having sex with a virgin. The excitement and anticipation can drive you crazy, but once you break that seal and get to the inside and in a couple of minutes it is all over, the regret sets in.

  • The pack will be far more valuable unopened in GAI's version of "gem mint" condition in the future...

    great buy!
  • lmao stingray... then what's opening a vintage case like? image
