Another ebay rant, feedback hostage!

not posting his selling ID...yet~! I told the seller I was very happy, and as a buyer, please leave me feedback. he responds "you leave first, then I will"
My reponse was "Are you holding my feedback hostage? I told you I was happy, and I did my part of the transaction, I paid. Now it is your duty to leave me feedback first, as I paid, then I will do the same.

he replies "man what are you talking about you emailed me about feedback i simply replied not a problem leave feedback and when i get a chance i will do the same don't send me these absurd emails about holding hostage or whatever i do my feedback after i have mailed all incoming pymts and after all items are shipped then after a while a few days or so i start sending out feedback what is you're problem i don't know why you fly off the handle with this email "

Has been 2 weeks, still hasn't "had a chance" to leave feedback. Just to clarify, he NEVER said he will leave fb when he has a chance just "you leave first, then I will" JERK! Any similar stories to share??

As a buyer I leave feedback after I get it. If not, I don't lose any sleep over it, and I certainly won't email the seller requesting it. Just ignore it and move on.

It sucks but that's Ebay. Just do your part, be a good Ebayer, leave feedback and over time one or two people who don't leave you feedback doesn't matter. In the end there are a lot of other things in life to get upset about. If, on the other hand, he was threatening to leave you a neg then I would be up in arms but just failing to leave you any feedback is no big deal. I would let it go.
  • I agree with you but sometimes a seller will leave feedback upon receit of payment and then the buyer wants
a partial refund because they are stupid and feel they are in a position of power. As a seller I leave feedback
when payment is made and as a buyer when item is received as described or refund is provided. Joe

My take on this differs. For a first time buyer, I leave feedback after they do to make sure it isn't some jerk trying to mess with my feedback. Once a buyer comes back for more, I leave feedback immediately upon receipt of payment.

I as a seller leave feedback in blocks. If I know I am going to auction off 100 things and stagger over a few days, I usually will wait until about a week after the last auction ends and see what still sitting in the sold pile. I will then go and leave feedback for all the items I have sent out and re-follow up with the people who haven't sent me payment yet.

If a buyer e-mails me asking for feedback, I generally leave it right away to avoid situations like you have played out above.

This reminds me of the time a poster named 'Big Kid At Heart' went postal after having dealers and fellow collectors emailing him and offering him cards that he needed for some registered set or another. The absurdity is actually two pronged:

First, you have to actually get bunged up by a 'you show me yours, I'll show you mine' feedback situation.

Second, you have to be sufficiently riled to actually get in front of a keyboard and vent about it. In my estimation these feedback stand-offs are about as irritating (and only about as grave) as having the paperboy throw the Sunday paper in the begonias. Do you wish it didnt' happen? Yeah-- I guess so. But I can't imagine the circumstances under which I would feel compelled to type a message voicing my dissatisfaction.

I think you came off a little too harsh. Using the terms "you holding my feedback hostage?" and "Now it is your duty" can be seen as a threat.

If you had a pleasant transaction and didn't have any issues prior to the emails, just leave a positive. Doesn't matter who "should" leave it first; especially if you want more feedbacks. Just do it.

    I offer a 100% guarantee + shipping return policy.
I also wait for the buyer to tell me he's satisfied by feedback. Once I get his feedback, I give him feedback.

Am I holding feedback hostage? Decaf is evil but may be called for here. I view it as part of the whole process.

    I offer a good.
    He pays for the good.
    I ship the good.
    He receives the good.
    IF he likes it THEN
    He gives me feedback.
    I give him feedback.
    End transaction.
    ELSE
He tells me that he's not happy WITHOUT negging me.
I give him his money back plus his shipping costs.
    End transaction.

This happened once out of the 100 or so transactions I've had - and the one time it did happen it was my fault.
At the end of the transaction the customer got his money back and I avoided a neg - then flipped the product around with an accurate description for almost the same money.
