OT - new PayPal policy

Another subtle price hike is in the works... image

Beginning August 19, 2005, all sellers who offer PayPal as a payment option for their eBay listings must accept all forms of PayPal payment. This includes payments made via PayPal account balances, bank accounts, or credit cards, regardless of whether sellers display the PayPal logo with credit card icons.

In plain English, personal accounts, which do not cost anything per transaction, are now useless to sellers for ebay transactions. Read on:

When the new policy takes effect, sellers who list with a PayPal Personal account may still receive payments funded via account balance or bank account transfers but must also be willing to upgrade to a PayPal Premier or Business Account if they receive a credit card payment via PayPal from their buyer.

PayPal is handy, and I already accept credit cards through them, but this is just another attempt by sleaze-bay to grab more money from all of us. Sadly, it will succeed because they are the biggest such venue on the internet image

    You are correct.

Unlike 3-4 years, ago, PayPal is now a must if one is to sell on ebay. Those who don't accept it are merely shooting themselves in the foot. PayPal and ebay both know it and are capitalizing on this.

PayPal and ebay are one and the same.. remember who owns PayPal? imageimage

But, really, as someone who doesn't sell on ebay and only has a CC on PP I like the move. A lot more convenient. And PayPal is still the biggest guy out there with the lowest cost to the buyer! (vice BidPay)

All they need to do now is mow over the European banking system and force sellers overseas to adopt PayPal! image

That would mak many things much easier, but Paypal is controversial in Europe, because of the fees, chargebacks, blocking of accounts and so on.

  • Better than 90% of my buyers use PP, and I almost always do when I buy, in fact I may avoid a seller if they don't take PP, depends on what they are offering and if I can find it else where...
