    Skip Bayless is the same idiot that wrote an article how we would NEVER and i mean NEVER see another home run derby with a hitter that hits more then 12 home runs?? and longest shot being 440??

    he makres a very good argument (as does skin and all the rest) the fact remains that the Hall of fame has been the Hall of Good for years now, Raffie is not going to be the first person inducted that if you compared him to the true greats of the game does not belong. that was done when guys like Maz, ferrel, reese, rizuto, etc etc etc were inducted. as baseball evolves we are going to see more and more such inductees. the days of the true suoerstar HOF"r has been gone a long time now.

    who exactly is todays true dominant superstar that is hall worthy if he/they retired tomorrow?

    Non Pitchers please.............

    10 yrs of service needed...............Griffey? Piazza?

    Raffies worth is in his longevity........

    okay? so who is to say if raffy played back then he wouldnt of been better? or if those guys like ruth mays aaron etc.. faced pitchers like clemens johnson schilling gooden etc.. wouldnt be worse?

    as of my time of watching baseball raffy is the 4th person EVER TO HAVE 3,000 HITS 565+ HR'S! FIRST EVER EVER EVER EVER TO BE A TRUE LEFT HANDED HITTER TO MAKE THOSE STATS?

    how do you keep him out? FIRST EVER SKINPINCH AXTELL!!!!! ONLY LEFT HANDED HITTER EVER IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL TO REACH THOSE MILESTONES.. AND IT WILL CONTINUE MAYBE TO 600 HOME RUNS?

    Give the guy a break he is a hall of famer!!

    He'll make the hall, but he doesn't deserve it.

    He was a bit above average for a really long time. If you want to honor mediocre players that way, that's your choice.

    I have no respect for a player for the hall who has never demonstrated the ability to dominate. Never the best at his position at any time in his career, let alone for a period of years.

    It's hillarious that Raffy is even mentioned in the same breath as Mays, Aaron, or Murray. He's not even good enough to carry their bats to them. He's a hack who stuck around for 20 years and has questionable ties to steroid use.

    Griffey? How about the best player in ALL of baseball for an entire decade of the 90s?

    Piazza? How about the best catcher offensively of all time?

    This is the best line in that article (and oh so true):

    "Ask longtime Baltimore fans if Palmeiro is in Murray's league, and you might as well be asking if they prefer the Nationals to the Orioles."

    Another true and telling fact about Raffy's career:

    "Too many seam-headed voters are too imprisoned by milestone numbers. For them, 3,000 plus 500 equals first ballot. I realize I'm thinking way too right-brain for a baseball argument, but just listen to your instinct when I ask: "Is Rafael Palmeiro a game-changing player?"

    Your instinct whispers no, loudly.

    Palmeiro has made only four All-Star teams -- half of Murray's. Not once has Palmeiro been voted a starter. His highest MVP finish is fifth. Not once has he led the league in home runs, RBI or batting average."

    For those who are still saying "who knows if he would have been better in the different era," or "you can't argue with the numbers."

    He played in the different era!! Just take a look at his numbers my friend. When you measure him vs. his peers and you see he is the annually 35th best hitter in the league, what in the he$$ makes you think that if all his peers would have played in a different tougher era that he all of a sudden would be second instead of 35th? Again, just check his rankings in the tougher era he played in, pre 1993, and those were actually his prime age years.

    If you still say you can't argue with the numbers and you feel I beat context with a dead horse, then I hope you realize after listening to all the faulty comparisons and analysis last night you understand how most people just don't understand, broadcasters, and players included. Palmeiro himself said he "wasn't sure" if his numbers were as good as Mays or Aaron, as if there was a possiblity. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Those people all need to read the information I presented to get a better understanding. I hope all the Palmeiro bandwagon guys got a little more insight on his accomplishment after reading all FACTS that were laid out.

    WInpitcher, again, you are very much correct in your assessment of Palmeiro's worth being his longevity. It is a matter of preference for being a Hall of famer player, and another decent year or two, nobody could probably question it. But darn, those guys still keep ignoring the facts, and still act as if he was in the class of Murray, Mays, or Aaron. I wish those people would just see the stuff I wrote about Murray compared to Palmeiro etc.... Maybe they would understand better.

    Anyway, it was still fun to watch him get his hit. Talk to you later guys.
