My recent $1500 slurge

I went a little nuts the past 2 weeks on a little spending spree. Stayed away from unopened and went for some 70's PSA 9 that I liked. I'd appreciate thoughts on how I did. I did pay close tof SMR of most items, but they all have fairly low pop's.

72 Yaz - PSA 9 paid - $142
73 Munson PSA 9 - paid $177
74 Munson PSA 9 - paid $100
75 Schmidt mini PSA 9 - paid $283
75 Yaz PSA 9 - paid - $127
75 Palmer PSA 9 - paid $194
75 Seaver PSA 9 - paid $114
75 Gossage PSA 10 - paid $323 - - A little nuts but it's my first 10 ever, a 1 of 1 pop and Goose is a certain future HOFer
76 Gossage PSA 9 - paid $24 (feel like this was a very good price)
77 Munson PSA 9 - paid 12 - ok, I will admit it, I am hoarding this card - I now have 5 - dont ask me why as the price has been dropping - but this is a v good price.

Total - 1492 - SMR total approx $1800

As I have moved my focus from 8s to 9s for my 70s cards, you really have to pay a premium, but oh well. My next goal is to get a pretty 71 Munson in PSA 8. I will then have one of the top 71 Munson Registry sets....

Enjoy the weekend gents,

Steve

    Steve-

You bought that 76 Gossage from me. I think you got a good price on it as well! Enjoy

Are doing player sets or sets for those years. If you have any doubles for 75 let me know. Just starting out on that set.

  • Thanks zef - the 76 Goose is an under valued card in my view

Stingray - I have plenty of raw doubles in 75 - but none graded. The focus of my collection is a PSA 9 Munson standard T set and PSA 9 cards of 70s HOFers.

    I think you did great!

I'ld like to see a scan of the two 73T cards.

I like Goose also - was a big yankee fan in school in NYC!

    thanx for sharing

Munson's seem to be depressed a bit lately. I have two 1972 PSA 8's to sell but don't want to give it away.

    Sorry Steve
    I meant the 72T Yaz - I wrote two 73s.

It's hard to see the Munson from the sale - when you get the card - could you get a better scan - if you don't host/post - just copy it and email it to me and I'll post it.

    BTW, very nice Munson!

    thanx

  • Here is the 72 Yaz - surprised that others think this is only worth $80-100, but oh well. Stone, you think the $300+ for the 75 PSA 10 Goose is crazy? No hurt feelings here, so lmk!!

  • lostdart,

I guess maybe I took it on the chin for the yaz. but, as Mike reminds us often, it is a hobby - so what the hell. image

It's still a suite card and there are no 10s.

balco I would hardly call $40 taking it on the chin. I think lostdart was trying to incite something. When it boils down to it you got the card you wanted and yes 40+ is not low pop, but they are not on ebay every day either. Enjoy your purchases.

Nothing with getting the cards you want but it would have been more effective to do it without the prices. By putting in the prices, now you put a monetary value on the cards and therefore, people would judge based on what you paid - not how nice the cards are. Let's get away from the "price guide mentality" and just get and brag about cards for the love of them.

By the way, are you sure about "Goose is a certain future HOFer"?

Perhaps he was looking for positive and negative opinions, but I doubt he was looking for ignorant opinions.

    My comments:

    1. 1972 Yaz PSA 9's can not be purchased for $80

    2. 1972 Yaz PSA 9's can not be purchased for $100

    3. While not scarce, 1972 Yaz PSA 9's are rarely offered for sale

    4. Yaz has a huge following

    5. Balco got the 1972 Yaz PSA 9 for a very good price

    6. Lostdart will never own a 1972 Yaz PSA 9 if he is only willing to pay $80-100

    7. Lostdart does not understand how to properly interpret population data

Edited to add: 8. If Legacy was auctioning that card, it most likely would have sold for more than SMR ($225)

Having constantly monitored the 72 Topps market on EBAY on a daily basis for the last eight month (during which time I bought over 700 of them in PSA 8 and 9), I will delete my obvious ignorant opinions......

Sorry to mess up your thread Balco......

    Very nice card!

On the Goose? I don't buy 10s but my guess is? A bit high.

On Goose and the HOF? Most Yank fans would say he belongs in the HOF. I gotta say - he was scary good in the late 70s. If by some slim way he got in the HOF - you would be looking like a genius with that card!

Lostdart, you have to realize, NOBODY knows more than kuntryboy. He's an expert on everything. 81 posts, and not a single one that didn't question somebody's intelligence about something.

kuntryboy is certainly abrasive, and a know-it-all, but I will hand it to him: his call on the fake Fazookas was spot on.

Also, I don't believe he is as new as his post count would indicate. I'm of the opinion kuntry is a banned member posting under an alternate ID. image

Balco -- You didn't spend your $1500 on brand new stuff, 100% of which will still be gem mint in 100 years, so you did very well!
phreaky -- Of course he is.
