Auguste Joseph Alphonse Gratry (1805-1872), French author and theologian; member of the French Academy. He was a principal opponent of the dogma of papal infallibility and helped re-establish the Order of the Immaculate Conception, a priestly order primarily devoted to learning.

Cool. When do you decide to give a medal this treatment? I have never figured that out so I tend to leave them alone. But some of mine could really use removal of the grit and crud that accumulates over time. I just worry about trashing them...

Both of those medal had heavy PVC on them and that was the determining factor.
