New addition - 1932 florin

image

Mintage: 717,041. Rarity in UNC: probably R², maybe higher.

This one fills a hole in what is now a date run of UNC or AU florins from 1926-1967.

I still have a couple of pieces to get in the 1911-1925 range (including the key dates).

(edited because cladiator used the same title and did so first)

Dang, how does one tell a slider from an UNC on those?

I see a little softness in George's hair and beard, but I wouldn't wanna guess if it was rub or strike-related.

I've never seen one of those that nice, obviously.

Coinkat - good suggestion, but it is already slabbed.

It's really a tough series to grade properly.

In this case it is probably the picture, probably distorted by the plastic and/or the light. You can see the "haze from the plastic more clearly at 11:00, 12:00 and 1:00. It is definitely UNC, but I think the TPG probably overgraded it a point.

Okay... it was gradedimage. I like it and I respect your grading ability, but I can like it and still believe that it may be the grade I think it is. image

Seriously... it is a terrific coin with very clean fields and I would offer my thoughts as to a grade, but that was not the scope of thread. Congrats Wybrit... well done

  • I don't know about the darkside, but on the lightside I have seen the principal difference in a coin that grades AU55-58 and one which grades MS 60-62 is lthe eye appeal, not the technical wear of the coin. Good looking sliders wind up in MS60-62 holders. This seems to be especially true with NGC and with gold coins.

I believe the TPG's are now market grading the coins in this range, i.e., a good looking AU coins is worth more than a technically correct, but not very attractive MS60.

That rarity in UNC. is probably understated. Wybrit, that appears to be quite the choice specimen.image

Are you still looking for a 1925 florin, or is this one a match?

P.S. Don't you just love trying to image through TPG plastique?image

    Indeed I am. A 1913 also.

Crack it out! Such a beautiful coin deserves freedom...

I tend to agree with you on that. I am tempted to do so...

good luck with a 1913. I know of someone that had a decent example but it was $$$
