Fun with acetone

You might recall this thread I posted last month.

I finally got some acetone and gave the poor thing a bath. Here are the results. The leaves especially were coated with PVC and they look good now. Only dipped it for about 30 seconds per side:

Are acetone or KoinSolv advised only for coins with visable PVC damage? Are there any circulation coins one should avoid giving an acetone wash to? In short, what are the general guidelines on when it helps a coin and when it hurts it?

I can't think of any metallic coin that acetone would harm.

What does it do to red copper? Does the original color remain?
