18th Century Mexican Silver

Anyone know of good places to find high end Pillar coins, from 1770-1799? Preferrably online? image

Depends on how you define high end I guess. Best there is IMO - Text

    I have a knockout, blast-white ANACS AU50 (slightly undergraded) 8-real piece.

But it's an 1805- Portrait type, not a Pillar. And not quite 18th century. image

I do have one 18th century 8-real piece, but it's only a Fine. (1796, F15). And it's still a Portrait type, of course.

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some Pillar dollars and fractional pieces myself, but I would be after the lower end to midgrade pieces, personally.

This is the design of coin I'm talking about. This one is in the lower spectrum of grades.....kinda like what you say you're looking for M'Lord. Now if I could just find one in high end AU to UNC.

ps. This is not my coin, I hijacked the image from a seller.....hope he doesn't mind as he is a usual on these boards image

Yikes! If I remember mine correctly, that coin is a dead-ringer for my 1796!

    Try Josh Moran's site: Civitas.

I've purchased a half dozen or so Mexican pieces from him. Top notch!

Josh is excellent. For some dumb reason, I didn't think about Civitas in relation to Spanish colonial. That's where I'd shop for ancient and medieval.

Staples is highly respected IMO. I have bought from them before and have been very satisfied. They have great images also.

I like the obverse of the XF coin and the reverse of the AU coin image
  • Thanks ajaan. Their feedback looked good but that is sometimes deceiving. It's good to hear from a customer.
