Beat up Mantle

This Mantle has 16 bids on it and is up to $1,237 already. I don't consider myself a snob collector, but if I can't afford a decent example of a card, I just don't buy it. Look at it! It is rough. Do others share my viewpoint about at least wanting to have reasonably nice cards in their collection and not buying something as beat to heck as this?

I also saw this one as I'm looking to upgrade my 52 Mantle. And since I don't own a 52 Mantle, anything would be an upgrade - LOL.
This one was interesting but just a feeling it might have water damage. Water damage whereby the card gets that mottled type look. Very tough to spot this on a scan. This would be unacceptable to me, yes even on a 52 Mantle. If it's not water damaged, that's not a bad card for a 1.

I would proceed with caution though.

52 Mantle **(it MAY be a reprint, I am not exactly sure!)
10 POOR 1: This card usually exhibits many of these characteristics: heavy print spots, heavy crease(s), pinhole(s), color or focus imperfections or discoloration, surface scuffing or tears, rounded and/or fraying corners, ink or pencil marking(s), and lack of all or some original gloss, small portions of the card may be missing.
<< <i>While the scan is tiny, I think the card presents rather well for the grade. It doesn't appear to have any major creases, so I don't think the card is *that* bad. I'd much rather have corner wear than creases. >>
Actually if you look carefully there appears to be a major crease cutting across the top right, going through the logo on the hat.
on this card, I'd guess 2K.
the worst "1" i've seen was a gai 1, and the majority of the back was missing - it sold for $1,425
as for the PSA 1 that sold for $3,000, that is a very high price, which is why the seller is quoting that. i believe that is the highest a psa 1 mantle has ever sold for.

If I had a few extra thousand lying around, I'd buy a PSA1 52 Mantle.
