Centering Test/Opinions

Please decipher the centering on this card.
Where does it start and why? Scan stolen from Ebay....I'm a thief.

The centering starts with the lines on the top and bottom of his name. The amount of card that extends past the ends of those lines should be equal. This is the closest thing this card has to a border. Therefore by my analysis this card oc L/R. The top to bottom is a little bit tougher I see what I would consider to be the top border but i would have too hard of a time trying to explain it.

Next? Look closer. This one is tricky. Kinda like an illusion playing a part.

Looks to me like 60/40 top to bottom, and 35/65 left to right.

Reasoning l to r is same as VintageJeff. I measured t-b by the distance between the top edge and "2004" in the logo, and distance between the bottom edge and the line below his name.

SD, you're half right. Your T/B analysis is correct. The L/R reasoning is still wrong.

Measure l to r by the space between the left edge and the logo, and then between the right edge and the block with 19/99?

Or, you could measure the space on the left the same way, and the right by the space betwen the right edge and the "Rookie" diamond. I believe this way though, would be the same as measuring using the lines above and below his name.

That's right. The left tip of the shield or logo and the right tip of the serial # box for L/R.
The top tip of 2004 and the 2nd bottom gold line under his name for T/B. There are your borders.

GAI says that's the spec they receive from the manufacturer.

I think, just imho, that the l to r centering should be based on the horizontal lines; but if that's the way the company explains their card "specifications", then I guess they canimage

Agreed because if the distance from the horizontal lines was even the card would look centered. The "specs" that they give make the card look oc when it apparently isn't. I think the card designers messed up here and inadvertently made the horizontal lines the centering focal point. No matter what they wanted to determine centering their design makes the horizontal lines determine it.

I agree with both of you guys regarding the horizontal lines.
I would of never guessed it. I've seen the horizontal lines on
other cards (same issue) go the other way towards the right.
I have never seen the horizontal lines centered.
My perception is that this issue is always off centered because
the lines are the focal point. Can we get a PSA grader in here
with his or her opinion on this?

    My take:

    55/45 T-B and 67/33 R-L
