PSA/DNA and set registry

If you send in a vintage card that is autographed, but do NOT request it to be graded, does it assume a "default" grade of 3 in the PSA Set Registry, or does it not qualify at all for set registry UNLESS it is assigned a grade?

I just tried adding a PSA/DNA Authentic card listed on eBay (a '54 Bowman Gil Hodges, for what it's worth) to the Registry and it showed up as a 3. I figured it wouldn't qualify at all, since I don't think non-auto'd cards slabbed only as Authentic can be listed on there.

Good question.. By the looks of the registry all autographed cards have a grade as well. I was thinking of doing a whole Hockey Hall of Fame autograph set with my signature cards for the registry.. it would suck if they can't go in there because there's no grade. If that's the case PSA/DNA should have their own registry where people can make sets of say autographed baseballs.. index cards.. whatever. I'm sure if they did people would be more inclined to give PSA/DNA business.. and move up yet another step above GAI and SGC.. in that business..

PSA/DNA recently began allowing ungraded but authenticated autographed cards to be added to the Set Registry and yes, they are assigned a default grade of '3'. My Baseball HOF Autograph set has a couple (Anderson & Puckett).

Which do you guys prefer when it comes to PSA/DNA cards: cards that are graded (even if the grade is low), or the "authentic" designation? Personally I prefer grades, but I'm curious as to what others think, since I'm going to be sending in a bunch to be holdered soon.

I've been thinking about collecting autographs for a while, but have never jumped into it, in part because I didn't really care for all the cards simply slabbed as Authentic. Today's realization that such cards can be added to the Registry certainly changes my mind a bit, but I still think I'd prefer a grade - even if it were less than the default 3.

....but you can get the autographed cards graded as well as authenticated..........it just costs a little bit more.

Check out Jason's auto set listed above, he has some graded cards.

actually it doesn't cost anymore to get a grade assigned. It's still the $20 fee. I prefer to have grades and all the ones that I have personally sent in, I have had graded. The two in my set with "Authentic" were bought off of Ebay. I did call PSA/DNA and they said that you could re-submit an autographed card with the "Authentic" notation and have it re-slabbed with a grade assigned for just the normal grading fee. I'm waiting for a $5 special and may do that.

I think if you're looking to resell maybe the "Authentic" would be better however I like the nostalgic value of an autographed card that looks like it's been through the washer, kinda like my Drysdale and Brooks Robinson autos!!image

By any chance wufdude, do you know how much it will cost for me to send in my already encapsulated 'cards' in my signature to PSA/DNA to add on an autograph grade?

The fee would normally be $15 each but what about re-holdering and will they charge me for the PSA/DNA authentication again or just a re-holdering fee as well?

I'm not sure about the autograph grading. I've never done that. However, I would not think they would charge you again for the PSA/DNA fee but only the re-holdering. By the way, very sweet cards you made...

Whoa! You have a Bob Feller autograph?! That must have cost you a ton...he's a tough signer!

(great set...and thanks for the scans! I really like the Robin Yount...I always liked those cards)

It appears that the card is given a default grade of 3 but you get NO registry points.

Miami Saul's set has a ton of 3's but his GPA is 1.

That's why I'm trying to stay away from them if I can. I just added an "authentic" Don Sutton/Bill Singer dual signed rookie card to my registry, but may see if I can have it cracked and graded (I wouldn't have even bought it if it weren't for the fact that it was signed by Singer at well).

Sean, did you see this auction.
Only $91.50 more than you paid for your already slabbed version.
Where are these bidders when I sell cards?
