i ain't often right
but I've never been wrong
it seldom turns out the way
it does in the song

It implies that the card was pulled from a vending box, and then, in most cases, sent directly in for grading. As opposed to a card that has been handled quite a bit, and may be less pristine.

Of course, we all know that vending isn't always the best source for sharp cards anyway...it's just more Ebay hyperbole.

If a card is in mint condition, does it really matter if it came from vending or a pack? I think we all know the answer to that one.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I think there's a misconception that cards come out in better condition
from vending. It all depends on the box/case itself and year/brand.
I've had my share of good and bad. It's a coin toss.

vending = no wax stained cards that is iMO

    corners can come dinged.

Vending was created to sell in vending machines, then when that was no longer they were continued as a way for dealers to build sets. Back in the day you had to be a candy wholesaler to get wax. retail stores got cellos and racks.
    Good for you.

I agree w/ everyone, hey its friday.....

Vending box that's been searched already, but sold as unsearched = very bad
Wax box that's been searched already, but sold as unsearched= very bad

Nice wax box cards = very good (psa 10 possibility)
Nice vending box cards = good (psa 8/9 possibility, 10 not very likely)

Wax/gum stain from wax box = bad (especially on $$$ card that you were really wanting)
Vending box from bottom of case that had been run over by Mack Truck= bad (time to have a bonfire)

Vending is a loose-a$$ term to describe anything related to cards. Prerequisite before investing in anything, read these boards, ONE TIME!!!

Topps put 24/500 ct. boxes in a case. As Winpitcher said, the key is no wax stains - but dings, OC's, miscuts can be found - lots of them!

As was also said, these were designed to "dump" the product on the kids in vending machines:

I think that a lot of people, over time, have adopted the term "fresh from vending" to mean pristine - and I agree, the adopted term should have been "fresh from racks" or "pack fresh" e.g.

IMO the amount of dings and other damage that older vending is known for is worse than wax and gum stains found in wax. Maybe its just me but I won't buy anymore late 70's vending ... wax and rack are the way to go!
