I got today 1978, 1979 and 1980 Topps vending boxes from BBE. Here are the highlights.
I opened the 1980 vending box first. Colors on the cards was quite crisp. A number of cards unfortunately had dinged corners (expected on vending). However, I did pull out a couple of gradeable stars including a Rickey Henderson. It should grade about an 8.
I next turned to the 1979 box. Dinged corners and miscuts galore. Overall, an absolutely horrible box. I did get an Ozzie rookie but it would probably only grade a 7. Very little worthwhile in the box. The highlight was a Munson that should have a decent shot at a 9.
The best for last, the 1978 box. It started off bad when the first card I pulled, cramped at the top of the box, was a beat up Brett. Ouch. I got another Brett about 15 cards in that was miscut horribly. Not much exciting and no Murray or Molitor with about 75 cards to go. And then in about the midle of the last pile was an absolutely gorgeous Molitor rookie. The card is just about dead centered, four razor sharp corners and most importantly, no smudge! The card has a good shot at a 9. (I would post scans but do not know how to do so).
Overall, a fun experience. I would try my hand at 78 and 80 vending again. As far as 79 vending, forget it. The card stock that year did not lend itself to vending.
I plan on spending more time with the 78s and may pick out some commons to send in for grading. Again, what fun!

Very cheap - as low as 50 bucks - I have an HP that is also a copier/printer for under 200 bucks.
