I sadly report that a box of two submissions, shipped by me with Fed Ex was lost in Anaheim on it's way to PSA.. One submission was 26 cards--- the $5 special--- all commons,, Mint+++ to be graded then added to my registries. The other submission was a 1956 Topps Harmon Killebrew, EXMT, using a submission voucher sent to me to make up for a previous "Mechanical Error" by PSA---- can't win!! Anyway, I've done a claim with Fed Ex, canx't my Master Card--- since the CC info was in there.. Nightmare!!! Don't ship Fed Ex Ground blindly believing that nothing can go wrong... How does everyone else ship? Is USPS registered the way to go? Down but not out-- Tony

sorry that happened to you.

I usually go insured priority, unless big $ cards - then registered.

In ten years I have never lost a package with the USPS. Registered or insured mail is the always the way to go. The USPS deserves a pat on the back. I'm a very happy customer.
Sorry to hear about the lost package. I hope its found - good luck.

USPS isn't much better, they're batting about .920 with me - I just had to go to the PO today to file a claim for a stolen package...

As Fedex losing someone's items, that's crazy. Didnt' they just lose about 40,000 people's credit history in the mail too??? Must be the smurfs.
USPS is the only way to go, why do you think PSA uses them?
I recently thought I had a USPS registered package lost as it took 7 business days to travel 90 miles. And I felt no better when the first call to the post office resulted in the customer service rep explaining how I could file for the insurance cost. But, lo and behold, it was delivered the next day. It would have been a huge loss.
USPS registered mail with insurance if value >$2000 (cheaper and more secure than the first).
Both are traceable, and insured in case of loss.
but I gotta say that playing the dollar game on sending submissions is is being dollar foolish.
PSA recommends registered coming and going - if it's worth sending in, it's worth sending in the right way.
I'm nervous enough shipping my cards out in a box - I've always used registered and I always will.
Too bad you didn't see an earlier thread regarding FedEx and alternate methods.
FedEx is the most bumbling, incompetent shipping outfit in existence.
I wouldn't give them the time of day - they'd lose it and we'd be plunged into darkness.

Not to pick on you, but this is part of your problem. FedEx Ground is different from standard overnight FedEx. It's cheaper, not as fast, and is transported differently than their higher priority services. I use FedEx often to and from PSA, but I pay for overnight service only. It's been mostly smooth sailing, and a lot quicker than Registered Mail (but, I agree - USPS Registered Mail seems to be bulletproof).
I am a FedEx employee so typically use Priority Express to ship to PSA. I have a good employee discount which makes this a great option for me.
And yet SGC and BGS chooses Fed Ex to ship back your stuff.
I never figured that one out.
Rangerman, I feel for you. Here's another vote for USPS Registered when it comes to high $ items and Priority Mail on lesser submissions. Similar to Rustywilly, Fed Ex left a $ 2500 graded comic on my door step while I was away at work. Fortunately, it was still there when I got home. They also left a package on my porch that got wet. Again I was fortunate, the box was soaked but the bubble wrap inside protected my unopened box of cards. Whew !!!
I hope there's a happy ending for you and the package(s) show up soon.

Tony,
I have worked for the Post Office for 28 years and have seen only two lost packages in that entire time when using registered mail.It happens with every shipping company, just almost never when you use registered mail.If you are shipping priority mail and insuring for a high dollar amount, the postage on the package could be a red flag as it would be a high dollar amount. Also,it is more cost effective to send high dollar cards or high amounts by registered as it is cheaper than insured mail. The Post Office has it set up that way.I hope you have a positive outcome and I would stay with registered mail from now on if your submission is above a couple of hundred dollars. The only catch to using registered mail is that the package cannot be a bubble mailer and has to have all seams taped with brown paper tape so that they can "round date"the seams.Check with your local post office on availability of paper tape or buy it at Staples or a similar store

I was wondering the same thing about SGC and BGS using FedEx for shipping. Anyone know if they self insure packages over $500???
Adam B.
There insurance will cover collectibles only up to $100. The don't tell you that as they sell you the $700 worth of coverage.
I my case I showed them my actual costs the items were around $800 and the sale was for a loss at around $600. They took mercy on me and waived the $100 rule and cut me a check for just under $400. When I talked to them they implied I should feel lucky that I got anything over $100.
Luckily after refunding my customer, the package finally found it's way to him. Unfortunately, he didn't still need all the cards and it turned $600 sale into a $200 sale. But at least the cards were found.
After five business days you have to be relentless with them. Get escalations and get them looking for it. File the claim promptly and then they will truly start looking for it.
I found out, as Sagard did, that the coverage falls to $100.00 for Fedex Ground shipments. I wonder if shippers have grounds for a class action suit for Fedex overcharging for shipping insurance or "declared value" as they call it?
Check this out under Declared Value, Section D, #4.

I may be wrong but I don't think sportscards are included in the category of "collectible stamps and coins." Although, it wouldn't surprise me if they were.

Edited to add: I used to ship exclusively through Fedex before I found out about the $100.00 and, thankfully, I never had a problem. I still have my submissions returned to me through Fedex but that will change soon as well.
