foreign books

Do any of you use non-English books in your collecting, and if do what books do you have?

I am not adverse to having foreign literature. I have some works in Persian, and I think I have other things in other languages. Usually, I can figure out just enough to make for a decent reference.

Sometimes - if you want books at all - you no choice but to get them in another language. I own several in French & Dutch - one or two in Spanish.

  • I have about as many foreign books as I have in English. Far too many to list, but I have Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, French, and Russian. I am fluent in all but Russian, but with some work and a friend who speaks Russian, even the Russian books are helpful.

You can never have too many books.

Besides the Japan Numismatic Dealers Association catalog in Japanese, I have a couple of German books on Japanese coins.

All mine are in English because i'm mono-lingual.

I can kinda just about really struggle to read French, usually with a dictionary on hand.

If it's any other language then i'm totally baffled, but i even struggle with Old English, or any kinda Shakespearian style English, albeit being that same language i just get caught up trying to figure out what one word in a sentence means. I'm not very good with languages.

So that's another one to add onto the no good at list along with numeracy skills.
