Do you really need a qualifier on a PSA 1?

I recently submitted some 1955 Quaker Oats Hockey cards and got them back this week. Not too many graded versions out there, so this is about a year or so on ebay and finally submitting my raw cards. The Montreal Forum card is the second to last card, and I bought a raw one pretty cheap as a filler. However when I got it back as a PSA 1 MK, I had two thoughts. First, a qualifier generally drops the grade 2 points, do I now have a -1 that I will be putting into my set? My second thought is why even have it for PSA 1. I understand qualifiers for cards PSA 3 and up, but if you have a PSA 1 card you are pretty much admitting that card is bad, but you love that card enough to grade it. Putting a qualifier on a 1 just feels like that TD that Nebraska scores on a poor Div II school to go up by 60 in the 4th quarter.

I added the card by itself to see if the registry would go negative, it did not. I am happy with the card, and glad I got it graded. How many times can you say you have a "PSA 1 MK, Only one graded higher"

I will be posting scans for my main set like the Forum over the next few weeks. The post and looking at the scan Yawie has in his sets is motivating.The PSA 1 MK

    I agree, but you have to admit that's pretty darn funny.

    That would be even funnier. Make it your goal now to complete the entire
    set in PSA 1 qualifier. If you think it doesn't have a qualifier....add/make one.

    Card with qualifiers count as follows:

    4 and up= - 2
    2 and 3 = -1
    1 = No penalty (just counts as a 1)

    Hope this helps,

    Molson,

    Congrats!!! You can now list it on ebay as a 1 of 1 and it should bring top dollar!!
    Better yet, I would like to see it in the next Mastro or Lelands auction...it is one of-a-kind and should bring bidders out of the woodwork!

    Good luck!!
