Poll: Who Has A Krause?

Just wondering if you have one, what is the newest edition that you have?
If you don't have one, are you looking to eventually get one or can you do without?

    2001 28th edition for 1901-present
    1999 2nd edition for 1801-1901

I'd like to upgrade my 1901-present book, maybe next year as it will be 5 years old then. I'd also like to get the other editons covering coins prior to 1800, but that's more of a luxury. It's not like I own any coins older than 1800 anyway. image

2005...1801 to 1900 and the 1901 to present. Basically they collect dust because I do not want to know what a coin is worth if I am buying and the urge to sell any of the World Coins has not hit.

A couple of times it was used to check the atribution (SP) of a coin which in one instance worked out nicely and made a coin I wanted affordable. No I did not rip a guy off. He had the coin described as a rare issue but it was not. The seller immediately lowered the price and I hit the BIN.

I have the 2005 version of 1901-present (32nd ed.). I'd like to pick up the other three as new editions are published. Anyone have any idea when that might happen for those editions?

I have a 1995 edition, which covers both 19th and 20th centuries, a 2002 20th century edition and the fourth edition of the 19th century book.

If I need more current pricing info, I just go tho the library, which is a short bike ride away.

All of them, and I do mean ALL. Going all the way back to the first edition in 1972. Just recently picked up the last one I was missing, the two volume hardbound 1985 edition with slipcover.

I though about it but i've never got one. Up until now i've never needed to.

My British collecting needs are covered by the North Catalogue. My US needs by my 2004 redbook. The only stuff i would need a Krause for would be the Third Reich coinage and the coins of Louis XVI of France, and they're both in different volumes. Which probably wouldn't warrant me ever buying a copy! image

  • Have the 91/92 ANA 100yr. Ann. deluxe edition One of these days I'll get a new 1900- edition. My world collection is of proof mint sets. and I've been unhappy with Krauses coverage of these issues. Currently, when I need to, I look at a local library's copy.

    19th century - still using the 1996 1801+ 23rd ed.
    18th century - 1993 1st ed.
    17th century - 1999 2nd ed.

I also got the Charlton and Haxby Canadian coin books in the mail today, '96 & '97 ed.s!

I was using a 2003 20th century edition Krause till yesterday but then was astounded to find a 2006 on my doorstep compliments of KP!
When I originally bought the 2003 I was so amazed and disgusted by the HUGE number of errors. So I complained and they invited me to go through it and send them 200 pages at a time of pages with corrections on them in return for a replacement 2003 catalog and a 2004 when it came out. So by the time I got through the first 200 pages it was weeks later and I knew it'd be a year before I was done, way beyond their editing deadlines for the next edition. And I didn't have that much free time anyway. So that was all I sent.
So, of course I never got a 2004 catalog and figured it'd be years before it'd be worth having anyway. But lo and behold, they've now sent me a 2006 for unknown reasons. Maybe they want to say things are all fixed now (I've found one major listing error already). Hey, it's only paper and ink to them and the $6/hr (?) they pay the interns or transients or whoever to put them together is nothing compared to the profit they probably earn from selling them at $55. But honestly, the hobby would still be in the dark ages without the Standard Catalog of World Coins guidebook. I just hope the 2006 has surmounted most of the errors incurred in the debacle of 2003.

I really was hoping someone without a Krause would reply to this thread (1 has so far) so I could donate my slightly used 2003 to them.
