Tell me about your FAVORITE CARD

So, perhaps this has been discussed before, but I want you to tell me about your favorite card. Remember about where, when, and how you got it, and share with us. Should be a fun discussion.

My favorite card is a 1993 Finest REF Frank Thomas PSA 10. It's a gorgeous card. One night when I was home briefly from college, my brother and I stayed up 'til 3AM one morning to win it on eBay. We had one of our greatest nights, lots of laughs, etc. The card holds special memories for me and is a great item to collect too.

  • 1952 topps bobby thompson. It was my first high number for my set on a budget. some kid drew a mustache on his face. Knuckles has a pic of it. I'm a tard so maybe he can reply and post the pic for me.

Its worthless, but I love it. softparade has contaminated my brain with worthless cards!! AAUUGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Of cards of value, my 38 goudey cartoon version Bob Feller as a PSA 7 with perfect focus, bloody red color, and near perfect centering is the beauty of my set. I look at it atleast every week or so, sometimes daily.

  • Allow me to gush, as my favorite card is a recently purchased vault-dweller, the Topps 1969 RC of legendary center Lew Alcindor in PSA 9... picked it up @ last fall's Mile High auction for about $1300.00 under SMR. Lucky me. Perfectly centered 50-50 T-B and 52-48 L-R, it enjoys a problem-free surface, perfectly capturing Jabbar's youthful optimism, not to mention the card's virtually untouched corners. I have no plans to sell the card at any time in the future. I am always awed at how the larger cards or "tall-boys" in this case can be preserved for 35+ years without creasing or normal wear, especially a card as popular as the Alcindor must have been considering his collegiate accomplishments and Topps comeback '69 basketball issue.

One of my most satisfying pieces of pasteboard to say the least...

I'm not sure I have a favorite card. As it goes, most of my inserts from packs are my favorite since I still
have almost every insert that I ever got, all the way back from 1992 when I really started to collect cards.
I can remember when I got most of them, from opening packs. I think the neatest thing I have is a full
unopened box of 1969 Fleer Baseball 3-D Plastic Trophy Plaques.

My favorite card ever would be the 1993 Finest refractor Greg Maddux, followed closely by the 1995 Finest refractor version of Maddux. I remember buying the Maddux around 1994 and watching the value of the card skyrocket and enjoying the heck out of owning the card. At the time, Maddux was in the middle of his historic pitching run, winning cy young awards repeatedly. Eventually sold the card and received a nice profit, but I remember the feeling of owning "stock" in him more, because he was doing so well. The 1995 Finest refractor Maddux is a horizontal card with notorious poor centering and very hot when it came out.

By the way, PSA is the best. image

I love the 1976 Topps Set, especially the Rose card. My favorite card I've ever owned is the 1934 Goudey #61 Gehrig. I don't think I've ever seen a more attractive card. I have to reclaim one eventually.

My favorite card is this card/this guy. Thank goodness
he only has 1 RC (Canadian & American variation )from this horrible ugly sensitive set and not 20 + nowadays.

Been following his career since his intro in 92-93.
He's pretty much the reason I got hooked on hockey
    and became a fan.

Agreed - hard to favor one child over another. However, I do have one card that shines above all the rest. About 20 years ago, I found a tattered, crappy '59 Morrell Koufax at Valley BB Cards in Tarzana, CA and bought it for $75. That completed my Morrell set, but I spent the next 20 years trying to upgrade it. I picked up another tattered one on ebay about 5 years ago for $90, but the seller had cropped the scan to the degree that I thought the card looked nicer. He gave me back most of my money, and I think I ended up getting the card for like 19 dollars. Last year, two Koufax's came up on auction, pretty nice shape, both went off at over $1500 a piece (remember?). Finally I worked a deal with another board member to buy a complete set - I took the Koufax and he got the rest plus the Koufax I got 20 years ago from Max. My new Koufax is this:

I knew Sandy was coming up when I saw your name. Great card.

I can honestly say that I don't have a favorite card. I have some favorite "buys" but that's not the same.

Perhaps my latest pickup is always my favorite for that moment.

1969 Topps White Letter Mickey Mantle. A beautiful card w/ liquidity akin to gold or crude oil.

I was one of them. Didn't pay big $ for it, but did buy 2 boxes at $40 ea.
Store owner had the error case on display with a big sign "saying FF boxes".
    Limit 2 per customer.

I remember seeing a kid trade his 86 Donruss Canseco (at the time BV$100)
for a FF Ripken when the hype went nuts with all the publicity. Yuk.

    1976 Topps Terry Bradshaw PSA 10 1/1

I bought it from a fellow Floridian for $2000. It was truly monster card! You say it was a bit overpriced? Less than a year later the seller begged me to sell it back, as he had a client that had to have the card. So I did sell it back!

    For $ 2,250.00

    You gotta just love PSA!

I've handled (bought and sold!) about a half dozen 1976 Topps Payton PSA 10 rookie cards. Almost every PSA 10 Payton rookie had centering in the neighborhood of 45/55. In my opinion, any one of those 10s could have been graded PSA 9.

But not this one and only Bradshaw! It was a "dead ringer 10"! image

So does that mean that my 1989 Fleer Bill Ripken "RickFace" PSA 10 is worthless?? Dang! I was hoping to sell it for some decent cash! image

John, Great looking Mays/Mantle cards. I'm going to get that Mays (not yours, but one of my own) and hopefully that Mantle. Love those Bowmans.

My favorite card is my 1948 Leaf Ted Williams, SGC 84. Certainly not the absolute highest grade, but a great looking card from a very cool set.

jrdolan, I have no idea, what that 76 Bradshaw PSA 10 should be worth today. I should have not given in to that Florida Dealer. He asked me to sell it for six months. LOL! image
