04/05 Exquisite Box Break

I had spent like $450 and then the owner mentioned he had one box of Exquisite. So I said what the hell, I wanted to check one out.

So I shelled out the big cash and opened the box. After finally removing all the wrap, I finally made it to the pack inside.

So I opened the pack to see a Kenyon Martin base card numbered to 225 I believe, next was a Pau Gasol Auto/Patch (2 color) /100, then a Jackson Vroman Auto/Patch RC (3 color), next an Allen Iverson jersey card numbered to 25 (looks like any other jersey card you find in the cheap packs), finally a Scottie Pippen Titleist Auto/Jersey numbered to 6. If it wasn't for the Pippen, I would have lost big time, compared to only losing a couple hundred.

I popped all of them on ebay except for the Martin. A couple minutes after the listing I had already received questions about a BIN and ending the Pippen early. I currently have a $500 offer I am trying to work out, depending on type of payment.

Congrats on the Pippen. Atleast it will make most of your money back! Those packs are even to high price/to much of a gamble for me, lol.

If packs were the same price as last year I would have broke even or maybe gained a little, but seeing the price jumped, I'll end up losing over $100 at least

BTW, the other boxes I busted were 3 cheap tri-star ones. I swear one box they must have bought a collection of 1985 or 86 because I had a 1 of 5 different Royals players in almost every pack.

2 Leather and Lumber boxes. Best pull was a Duke Snider Jersey /25

1 Elite Football box best pull was probably Montana Jersey.

The Pippen auto is a money-maker. He doesn't sign much, and the autos from this set # to 25 are selling for close to $500 already. I'll bet yours is worth a bit more. I have noticed boxes dropping just a bit on this (a little under $700), but the gamble is still too great for me to partake. Cases are selling around $2,000 or so.

This is nuts. There are Pippen autos/5, /6, /25, and who knows what else. And $800 a pack - are you joking? They upped the price by $300 from last year and people are still buying it? So the one thing UD has learned from this is that the ceiling has NOT been reached yet. Look forward to $1000 exquisite packs next year.

I'm confused. Was this a 2003/04 box or did Upper Deck release a new set this year?

I was lucky and the card shop owner only charged me $700, compared to how places would jack it up even higher seeing that is what they were getting on ebay. He probably just wanted to get rid of it and avoid fees, instead of taking the chance of it selling for under that.

I agree ctsoxfan that the Pippen will probably go for more than that. I just noticed a Rodman was selling for 800 or so. I was looking at current auctions and saw the one /5 not having any bids at $600, but it's early still and there are 5 watchers, unless they are all from this board.

Scott, this is 2004/05 Exquisite. UD released this set at the last minute, after collectors thought that last years set was just a once-off. But, as mentioned already, look at how hot this stuff is! At $500 a box (pack) last year, we all thought UD was nuts. Now, they are getting $800 a box, on a year with no Lebron, Carmelo, or Wade rookies to carry it. I would love to buy a case, but with my luck, I'd get 3 Pape Sow rookie auto patches in my case...

Seems like a lot of big pulls already, I've seen a couple James auto'd press plates on ebay and a couple dual auto'd logo man cards.

Still no sign of the triple logos or big dual auto'd logos.

I wonder if the same guy that had 2 of the 3 dual 1/1 logo man patches last year will have some good cards this year.

Personally, I wouldn't buy more than a box of the product. I only bought it just to say I did and take my chance at a quick turn around. I'm just fortunate enough to get the pippen, seeing the other cards would probably be lucky to bring in a total of $60 on ebay.

I saw a box/pack break on the Beckett board and best cards they pulled were a Devin Harris /25 and a John Stockton /100

Definitely hit or miss with this product.

Wow - see what I mean? That would be my box, no doubt...at least if the Stockton is an auto, it might get a couple hundred.

The only way I'd buy this, and I am not buying this anyway - would be a full sealed case. If the pattern from last year holds true, there is one "case" card that you need to get your money back, and the other two boxes might have a minor hit or two, and that's it. Many of the loose boxes on Ebay are probably the ones pretty certain not to contain that "case" card.

The Stockton was an Auto/patch I believe.


I don't think I would invest that kind of money though in a case. Anyways, it looks like some people busted several cases seeing they have lots of the wooden boxes on ebay.

When I left for work last night I had 8 watchers on my Pippen, I just checked it right now and it's up to 18.
