PCGS Grading Process Video

Good Morning,

Many wonder have wondered what process your coins go through when received at PCGS for authentication and grading.
We are pleased to announce that we have a new video on the PCGS website illustrating the procedures.

Please take a moment to view this if you are curious.
You can find the video here

Already posted, watched and discussed. The biggest complaint was no gloves used by the graders and packager.

Thanks for the viedo...great information. However, I was shocked to see no gloves being used. At the speed in which I saw the coins handled I'm surprised more fingerprints are not encountered.

When i watched this I almost gagged at how they put the ring on the coin.

    No wonder the prints!!!

Probably better then with gloves, as I think they would be careless thinking they have "protection". Proofs can still be hairlined.

No wonder some of my PKOK Ike regrades have smudges.

Unfortunately no more proof regrades. There is no way to rectify the smudges. Good news is they are not too bad.

Thanks for sharing! Take a little of the mystery out of it!

You are right! That is scary the way they handle the coins.

Now that you guys have seen the video, perhaps you can understand why I am extremely dismayed at the endless cracking out & resubmitting that is going on. The coins are being handled WAY WAY more than they should be. All the good coins being sent in over & over will be compromised this way, and ultimately destroyed.

I am not dissing PCGS, you HAVE to handle the coins to grade & encapsulate them. But I hope everyone sees how the endless multiple crackouts and resubmissions are a bad thing. Most collectors have NO IDEA how many times coins are mercilessly resubmitted over a period of months (and years, perhaps in various hands). The only thing anybody besides collectors cares about is UPGRADES.

    Best,
    Sunnywood

P.S. Carol, I do think it's a great thing to see the whole process, and I applaud PCGS for making the video available. It is important for the collecting community to understand the grading and encapsulation process.

Latex gloves would have impressed me. I have yet to handle even rolled coins in that fashion. I don't like it.

I have always envisioned the graders at their desks with latex or cotton gloves on. When I saw the video
I was quite shocked to see how my coins are actually handled. Please wear gloves next time you receive
a submission from me. imageimage Did I really say that? image

Over on the U.S. Coin Forum, I learned graders do not wear gloves at PCGS, NGC, or ICG. This increases
the odds of dropping the coin. But they do wear gloves at CCC. The colon cancer clinic. image
