Why do some coins in some Registry sets have "no grade"?

Coin was sent in for regrading. The old cert # becomes void, and the person has not yet updated with the new cert#.

    Thanks, any other reasons?

Does it mean that it was successfully upgraded?

No, when you send in for "regrading" the coin gets cracked out and a new cert# is generated. The new cert# is not valid (and the old one is still good) until it finishes in Verification 2. Once grades post, the old number becomes non-valid and the new number needs to be put it to replace the "no grade".

Because each coin sent if for regrading gets cracked, you don't know whether it graded higher or not until the grades post.

BTW -- PCGS just posted a video of the grading process: Link to video
