It's EF by British standards. The reverse is excellent. Check out the base of the thistle - when the dots show up on that area, you know it is UNC or very nearly so (BTW if they're not there, it doesn't mean it's not).
The obverse is a little suspect to me. The detail is certainly there, but you will have to have it in hand to determine whether or not it is really scuffed.
At £5.99 plus shipping, it is a good deal either way. Nice grab!!
Looks to me that coin was shot in different light. Maybe at different angles it's happened to me where I get a poor shot of the obverse and then I move the camera or light source a fraction of an inch and get a better reverse image. It looks like seller got the light right on the coin when he took the reverse and not so good light for the obverse. Either way what I don't see is a cleaning
Nice coin, I'm curious as to what the coin will look like in hand. The background appears to be the same for both pics, but darker in the second pic due to an adjustment.

Here is the 1879 shilling I won on ebay about a week ago. The coin arrived today so I took pictures to share. The obverse of the coin has this nice rose coloured toning. The seller states the coin as VF but I feel it's more AU anyway here it is.

<< <i>It looks better than EF to me so I went for it. >>
It's way better than EF, at least by American standards. Solid AU all day long.
I wonder why the toning is different colors on the opposing sides.
I think you did pretty well.
(It ain't 1879, though.)

I agree with the mushroom- this one could possibly be borderline UNC.

<< <i>I saw NGC MS62 on that coin. >>
Either your eyesight is far better than mine, or NGC is experimenting with new invisible holders.

Either that is a very choice AU58, or an MS62.
I can't decide.

<< <i>Very nice find, I would grade it EF by Brit standards, but if you send it off to NGC I'll bet they will put it in an MS-62 holder. >>
It seems to have obvious rub. Could they actually be that far off?
