France Louis XVIII 5 FR

I thought I would pose a grading question regarding the difference between the Louis XVIII struck in 1814-15 and the later variety. While most of the examples I have seen are the later variety, how well struck are the earlier dates from 1814-1815? The obverse has a different look and it seems that the hair is not always well sruck. Any thoughts on the difference between the two portraits in terms of grading?

Can't answer most of those questions though I know that some of the dies were prepared in England and that some were actually struck there. I think the mint mark on those is R though I'm working from memory here.

I never noticed a lot of difference myself. I've seen well struck examples of both. But the whole series is hard to find, and rather pricey, in MS grades.

I think the 1814-15 examples are quite tough in MS and I like the circs if they are atractive.
