My 2 new Morgan purchases from ebay... Opinions??

anablepanablep Posts: 5,209 ✭✭✭✭✭
1896 MS65

1901-O MS65

I think I did okay with these. They are upgrades from 2 MS64s untoned...

This Morgan collection is a slooooowww process... but better this way than rushed and having a mess of a collection...

Nice looking coins. It's tough to see much on the 1901 but it looks like the toning might be very attractive.

I like the one in the old school ANACS holder with the RIM toning, quite nice!

Both are quite nice. Even though the 01-O was tried for upgrade, the 96 actually looks like it is the one that has a decent chance at MS66 if it's clean up close. Good buys!image

Thanks guys! I appreciate everyone's comments. image

I really like the rim toning on Morgans. I'm going for a date set of those first and then we'll see after that.

Thus far I've got 50 different dates & mint marks and about 40 of them with rim toning of some kind and an average of MS63 grade (all certified by ANACS)

The only date I need for the actual date set is an 1895-O or S minted dollar.

As I said, this is a tough project. For those of you just starting something like this, patience is the name of the game. Wait for the right coin, there are plenty of them out there (especially Morgans)... A well struck, lusterous (and sometimes toned) example of many common dates are in enough supply that you can attain a decent collection in about 2-3 years.

Hmmmm-so you're the guy bidding against me online all the time! image It is amazing what an attractive group you can put together as a date set for so little money in MS63-65 (except the 95S)

I think you got a couple nice coins. I'm betting the 1901 will have some nice rainbow toning when you get it that they didn't photo well !!image

The 1896 is pretty cool and not sure of the vam number but check the date it looks to be off kilter ie the 1 is low and the six is high...from the rim!

    I like it...image

arlea1957: Thanks for the heads up on the date! I'll check when I receive them.

mad4morgans: I agree about the 1901-O. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the complements.
