Heritage Collectors & others - A Good Prospect or Two

Had the chance to see the A ball Tampa Yankees against the local Ft. Myers Miracle this week.

The pitcher, Tyler Clippard impressed me with his speed and endurance. This 20 year old threw hard into the 6th inning, unfortunately his teammates could not hit for him. They need to put a little weight on this 9th round draft pick, #88 in the Heritage base set and THC 68 in chrome. I had a couple cards with me, but since he was starting I couldn't get them signed.

Another prospect I came across is Eric Haberer with the A ball Palm Beach Cardinals. He is 3-2 in 6 games, 38 innings with a 1.66 ERA and 15 strikeouts. 23 years old. They come to town July 11-14 so I hope to get a look at him. Picked up an '04 Elite RC auto /100 this week for $5.

Also, watch outfielder Ron Perodin of the Ft. Myers Miracle. This 5'9" guy covers mucho ground in center field. Several times in the game he fielded balls in right/center that would have usually been the RFs ball, but he made it look easy. Not a fantastic hitter @ .238 but he does have 7 doubles in 168 ABs with 40 hits and 25 runs, 6 stolen bases.

Minor league ball, the most fun you can have for 5 bucks and a front row seat!

    Thanx for the report Keith!
I agree - when stationed in Augusta, I was a big fan of the sally league Pirates, in El Paso, the Diablos, in Watertown NY, the Indians and here, the Missions.

Great seats, cheap beer and fun baseball. And when I was at a Augusta game, this lady showed up to sign autos!

Now, is this great or what!?

Looks like she could crowd the strike zone. Bet she gets a lot of walks.

    How was her stance?

Oh forgot, Ryan Howard has been recalled to the Phillies lineup after Thome goes back to the DL. Howard is hot in the International League, batting .371 w/ 16 HRs. This could be his chance to make a mark in the show.

Of course he will hit and the Phils will trade him to patch a hole in the pitching rotation!

Losing Thome was a dagger to the heart.

I'm not having a banner year watching the Braves either.

Hey, the NL East is anyone's game at the moment.

Anyone who buys into the steroid/chemical story would question Thome's inability to recover from injury. These things will all play out as we watch some of the big hitters and maybe some pitchers over the next year or two.

At least the game may move back to some semblance of normalcy.

SI this week picked some top players for the season 1st half. The 2nd baseman rook for the Chisox, Tadahito Iguchi was chosen as the top rookie in the AL. His 05 card can be had for a song, Donruss Studio and Playoff Absolute are out there at the moment. Of course Bowman Chrome hits the shelf in mid August.

The NL pick is Clint Barmes of the Rockies who I think was injured in June but still leads rookies in stats. His RC is in '03. I picked up a couple of Topps Traded Chrome for a couple bucks each.

And then there is Billy Butler, Royals prospect who made me about 300 beans over the last two months.
