Maybe its because those things aren't worth a penny sleeve or toploader. But yea, seems kinda stupid to do that if your implying they are worth something by trying to sell it.

lostdart I agree! SG Gaynor is a good company and they more than likely neatly "piled" the cards to allow someone to see that they were getting a nice starter lot. The rest was just late nite fun IMO.
By the way, I can relate. I have (420) raw 1966 cards that I want to put up tomorrow. I got them all sorted but I still have to go through each one and verify the grade. And then I have to scan them and then put them into the template and then..... Right now, I'm about ready to say, screw it and just take a picture of each of the stacks. But that's not how I like to do things but still, it seems like too much work for such small returns.
At the local F&S show here in LA, there are a few dealers who have showcases like that. Cards just piled on top of each other. I rescued a black ref and a red auto (Heritage) from that abyss.

From a collectors POV, that definitely offends the eyes. Now, talking about shuffling cards, if you can follow this guy, you've got a good eye!!
