Of course not! You'll be dead!!image

MadMarty, you have awesome coins. It's always nice to see them shown here. No doubt it's a serious challenge to find and "make" them, too. I'm glad you're part of the Darkside, even if you're a wannabee...imageimage

    Damn Straight!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • When I started collecting the best advice I received was "Collect what you like it's your collection" So if someone wants to collect one way, why should it be critized. If the collection is high grade moderns for the Registery and they are posted on this forum then OK. If it's raw British pence, OK. etc.

If you don't like the thread - DON'T READ IT!

If you can not find threads that intrest you - START ONE!

MM, maybe I'm sorry I started this post but I'm not going to take back anything I said.

Darkside posts used to evolve into discussions about the coin, representative examples owned by other forum members, similar ones someone might have for sale, the art and history of the coin and that does still happen, but much, much less.image

Many posts just have something for sale (and that's OK, believe me), many are just grades. Many new posts simply smack of the Lightside mentality where a thing is owned because it is hopefully valuable, rather than from an appreciation of its art and history or place within a numismatic context.

The regular Darkside posters had evolved a wonderfully relaxed forum and it is true that there were many friendly jabs hurled in the direction of the Lightside concerning grades, arguements, AT'd kennedy's, etc and it was fun as long as the things mocked stayed in the Lightside.

My opening comment concerns the hype with which grade only posts are presented here. A lot of it smacks of hucksterism and I've never liked that style, so I was a wee bit discomfited to find it here on the world coin forum more and more frequently.

In many ways it reminds me of an acquaintence I had who purchased a large library of books, not to read, but to display as trophies, because they were the "right" books to own.

Ultimately, I posted an opinion concerning something that bothered me, an open expression that did not really require a call to arms on anyone's part, but maybe just their agreement or disagreement.

Well hopefully there is one thing that no one can accuse me of, i usually do go to great lengths to include as much history in my recent aquisition posts as i do of coin.

So there's still some of us posting such threads.

Would I? image (Yeah i lay that on with a trowel, a bucket and a spade, and that 30 ton JCB parked up in the corner there). Many people simply don't understand my humour style, but you have to remember i'm British and us Brits love to parody things.
